GGG could we please get a reply on the graphical glitches from x64 client going on for weeks now!

GGG seems to be in the holidays already after releasing the new league. Besides the graphical glitches, the lag on EU GWs really makes it hard to enjoy PoE.

In like 1 out of 5 parties I get glitches from the char of another player and am running half-blind through the map.

I'm beginning to wonder if this is some sort of head-in-sand approach to fixing these issues. Maybe they hope we'll all just switch to Windows 10 and the problem will go away!

It does, but the graphics issues reported here and elsewhere, don't appear to happen when using Windows 10. (or DX9 but that client is also working horribly now)

Fun times
I am pretty damn sure the devs had this issue, patched it, but it re-occured due to a last minute change, its definetely an engine bug and I'm pretty sure they work around the clock as we speak to find the issue and patch it :D

The best proof is that the game used to work in the pre-patch just before the 2.5, so its definetly some new shit added now that creates this fps/latency/freezes/gfx glitches

It happens, its a huge game with a shit ton of mechanics and computations, I don't want to shift the blame from GGG, but its a software, software is tested and developed by humans, so, its only natural that some bugs and stability issues appear from time to time, especially in such a big update....

Like i said previously, my hunch is that the 2.5 update brought up the Shader Model 4 as oposed to 2.4.2 that was using shader model 3

"Shader Model 4 supports a new pipeline stage—the geometry-shader stage—which can be used to create or modify existing geometry. It also includes two new object types: a stream-output object designed for streaming data out of the geometry stage, and a templated texture object that implements texture sampling functions."

If GGG moved all the effects to this shader model 4, and some of them are not well optimised (See breaches, auras, aoe skills, spells, fire effects), it could be that these new effects use a shit ton of GPU which also need to be communicated to the servers. which might create this lag spikes /fps issues and glitches :D

It could be a combination of issues that lead to this... and IMO, if they made the change from Shader model 3 to Shader model 4 just in between 2.4.2 and 2.5 (2 weeks), this was not ENOUGH for testing and certainly not enough for all the assets of the game to be optimized to this new shader model.

Just my 2cents :D

It has nothing do to with the changes to production_config/shader model version bump. These 'glitches' have been happening for the last month consistently. The patch today has, as far as I can see, mede no difference to this issue.

What this actually appears to be is a Windows 7/DX11/DX9ex issue, as it does not appear to happen with Windows 10 (no idea about Windows 8) or DX9. It also seem focused around AMD cards, but that may be a red herring.

I am experiencing this issue since patch 2.4.2 aswell so it is very unlikely that it is related to Shader Model 4. That it doesn't occur on Windwos 10 systems is new info for me but doesn't help that much since I am happy with Win 7 and don't plan on upgrading soon.

The issue being focused around AMD cards is wrong. Many people using Nvidia cards had the same issues and posted about it here and on reddit.

I think the artifacts/glitches have nothing to do with the random freezes or frequent lag spikes going on since start of the league now. GGG already mentioned that Breaches created more load on the servers than expected especially since this was the biggest launch of a new league afaik with many new players.

I don't think it matters as I have also seen others with nVidia experiencing the same problem, but I have AMD too. (And Win 7)

I didn't have any issues with the dx11/64-bit client before Breach release, but perhaps I just didn't play it enough. I just hoped in and played it a bit here and there between leagues.

I do not experience it at all while using dx9 ex, because I have to use it (the EX version that is) instead of dx9 because now dx9 was freezing and crashing when alt+tabbing during the first few days of Breach, and that shit never happened before Breach release.

So, if I use the new DX11 I experience these glitches/artifacts on occasion. Sometimes I can play for hours and then boom! The whole screens goes disco off and on. I doubt anyone's GPU is to blame since these things can be repeated at will, as in that Cloak of Flame example and my video of Navali in the hideout. (Vorici also causes it at times too when he twirls his swords, etc.)

If I use dx9 I can't alt+tab or it will freeze/crash etc.

So, dx9ex it is and it lags and hitches like hell half the time, just like it has the entire time this game has been in existence.
For those that don't check the bug forum, we've had a reply

Hey guys, no news to report right now but did want to jump in and say that we're certainly aware of this issue and are working on finding a fix. Many users report that using --noasync or switching to DX9 / DX9Ex causes this problem to no longer occur. While these are temporary workarounds, they should help out for now until we get a proper fix in place.

Thanks for all of the details reports everyone - they've been very helpful.
