[2.5] Scorching Ray / Searing Bond CI [SC/HC][League Starter]
I am writing this to share my 2.5 league plan with the new Scorching Ray gem, after some trials on 2.4. This is viable on both SC and HC, and self found / League starter since the Templar gets all the gems we need.
Pros
- Self Found / League Starter viable
- High survivability on all game stages (4% Regen on Normal Piety, 7.3% Normal Malakai, 9.8% + 4% at maps) - Very good single target DPS (or miltiple targets in a straight line) - Consecrated Ground (4% Regen + cast speed + status ailments imune) - 3L weapon level 15 is enough for TOP efficiency until you have a 5L chest, reducing time and cost of upgrades - ES @ 55 with 3K ES and 1K life, 300+ ES/sec regen - Party Friendly (3 auras or 2 Auras + Curse) - Viable Culling with Flame Totem - Can deal with reflect (Seasing Bond)
Cons
- Not top AoE clear sped
- Mobility requires practice (totems) - Can't leech - Can't do no_regen maps Since this is a League starter build post, I want to focus on progression rather than end-game, since that will be up to each of us to pick a path for the last 25 levels (RF, Low Life, CI, level 70+ itemization)
Item filter
Add this on the top of your item filter.
" PROGRESSION:
1-15 pts Act 1 Normal
Level to 12 with whatever spell you like, wielding 2 sceptres. I suggest Magma Orb, and to make the first 3L you find +1 to fire skills. Vendor the 3L Sceptre, a ruby ring (any quality) and an Alteration Orb to produce one. Do this twice for Magma Orb and for Flame Totem. At level 4 get a Flame totem to get used to the dynamic of Totem + spell. At level 8 get Added Lightnng when you enter the prision and link to Flame Totem. At level 10 get Clarity when you kill Brutus. At this stage you are likely level 13 with the 2 skill points from Fairgraves and the crab. After Fairgraves, get Searing Bond and Scorching Ray. Precision for the Dexterity will allow you to use whatever gear you find.
15-31 Merveil to Piety Normal
" After Chamber of sins you can either activate Artic Armor or pick up Mind over Matter notable. Get Discipline and purity of Fire after the Crematorium
Why not a 4L ASAP?
Searing Bond - The next link possible would be inc Burning Damage or Rapid Decay. Only 1 of these will not be better than +1 skill gem level.
Scorching Ray - Faster casting, inc Burning Damage or Rapid Decay will all give less dmg boost than +1 gem level. Use two +1 fire gem sceptres until you have a 5L chest. Do not consider a 5L Staff since you would loose +40% inc ele dmg right off the bat.
31-47 Piety to Malakai Normal
Get more Regen, and burning damage. I also like to do the Lab before Malakai. Getting Sanctify will give you 0.5% life regen (should be 7.3% by now), and Consecrated Ground mechanic which is a good idea to get early if it is the first time you have that, for an extra 50% ele dmg. At this stage, I suggest having a 3L +1 minions helmet which you can make yourself. Link Stone Golem, Minion Life (act 2) and Minion Resist (act 3) from the shop as soon as you clear the Dry Lake.Since you only cast 3 linked spells, you don't urn too much mana. Sometime in Act 4 replace clarity fo Purity of Fire or Discipline or Blasphemy. I use Vitality + Blasphemy + Arctic Armor. Get the Duration 3 points if you find yourself almost not using the totem except for bosses and boxes
Stats @ 41 - Normal Malakai
100% Self Found
Go ES @ 55!!
Going earlier, even at 50 is not advisable at all with our current tree.
Lets see why. With self-found gear we have: 1624 HP 1026 Armour (32% Phys dmg reduced @ 51) 516 Eva (20% Evasion chance @ 51) 201.4 Life regen per second (Vitality + Stone Golem) For ES to pay off, we would want at least 50% more than we have in life, to balance the Eva and Armor we give up. That means 2400 ES @ level 50, which is totally possible but not on our curren tree, since we favoured Regen and Burn dmg. At the moment we have about +60% max ES from Int (243) and Tree. So to get 2400 we would beed 1500 base. Discipline level 8 adds 140 so we need 1360 from gear which would mean on average: 675 chest 250 Helm 225 boots 200 gloves This is not possible to find at level 50, specially a dy or two into a new lague! What would be possible? 60% of that. 450 chest 175 Helm 150 boots 125 gloves Lets round it to 1100 with Discipline and a chain belt. We would need 120% ES bonus from Int+Tree. These 60% can aqquired next if you plan on go ES/CI early. - Foresight + access = 20% ES + 20 flat for 2 points - Arcane Focus + access = 36% ES for 3 points - Recover 3 points from Discipline and Training (Life nodes) - Evergy From Within jewel near Qui8ck Recovery = 15 to 19% ES with 1 point - Zealot's Oath for 2 point A net cost of 5 points to switch to ES @ 55. You should be wearing something along the lines of: 525 ES Savant's Robe @ level 56+ 175 ES Conjurer Gloves @ 55+ 200 ES Conjurer Boots @ 53+ 250 ES Necromancer Circlet @ 54+ With +2 Minion Should get you close to 3K ES while keeping 1K health. Due to the cost of these in the first days of a League, if this is your league starter stick to life until Mif 60's and get instead the hybrid nodes on the righ side of the tree first. Cruel and Merciless
Keep an eye our for 3L Crystal Sceptre and repeat the +1 fire skill gem process.
Keep gearing Life/Resists until lev 60. Tree before CI - 75 pts
Maps
Make sure you do Cruel and Merciless Labs before you invest on CI nodes.
Then invest all your points on ES nodes. As soon as you find/buy a 600+ ES chest, 200+ ES Helm/Gloves/Boots, you can go CI. Final 113 pts tree Extras and Food for thought: When we get Elemental Overload + EE, start using Orb of Storms-Inc AoE-Curse on Hit - Flamability Bandits - Kill all if CI or Oak + Kill all if not CWDT - Immortal Call - Molten Shell - Inc Duration Vaal Discipline is mandatory When you go CI Searing Bond 3L Sceptre setup on Swap to use against for Reflect Consider RF + Purity of Fire Replace Animate Guardian with Spectre and try out Ash Prophet to cast Flammability on your behalf, and use Discipline + Purity of Fire + Arctic Armor, if RF. End Game Gear goal
ES pool = 12.000 ES With about 350% to Max ES (tree+int+jeweery), and a goal of 12.750k ES we need 11k before the 15% of Infused Shield. We need 2450 base ES Chest 750 Helm 350 Boots 250 Gloves 200 Amulet 50 Ring 65 Ring 65 Belt 100 Tree 40 Disc 394 Total 2264 After +350% Max ES we get 10188 After 15% More ES from Infused shield we get 11716 with no shield or 13527 with a 350 shield. Searing Touch is better for SC. +2 Sceptre and Shield is better for HC until you have 6L chest. i dont see any info about which Ascendancies are viable for this build.
As i understand it is Inquisitor, but it wasnt very easy to find this (understood this only when u mentioned Consecrated Grounds). So u took Pious Path - and what other nodes u took ? Progression section looks crazy (chaotic numbers and words which doesnt help to quickly understand the content): 1-15 15-31 ASAP 41 @55 At first look at the build, i dont understand what is the cons - "Mobility requires practice (totems)" in Pros u have typo - Seasing Bond You have forgotten your place, Karui slaaave! Cruel Lab solo at 56 (level gained inside).
Skill tree All Self Found exceptre the Sceptre and the rings. Gloves and boots were my own enchants.

I need advice on crafting this further.
