shock nova has the highest damage of all lightning spells, but it does the lowest damage of them all

Shock nova is the worst lightning spell because... there are lots of monsters with lightning resist.

Right... Think about that for a second.

I dare not undertake such a heinous task.

My brain trembles at the thought.

Is this quote from re zero life? :)
Crit Damage is something I have mixed feelings about, especially in spells.
they just don't seem to do *that* much damage - and I'm talking 400% multiplier at times on my chars... which seems like a nuke, but often isn't. especially vs. tough single targets.
disclaimer: except Discharge. that's definitely a nuke and I love it.

"ordinary" spells like Arc, Shock Nove and the like, scale best imo by lowering monsters' ability to tank them + maximizing the effects they cause (Shock/FreezeChill/Ignite).
so Penetration and a dedicated curse (Conductivity) on either self-cast of Blasphemy if you can afford the mana - go a long way.

add the crit only when you'll have a 5th link. chance, not multiplier. because Shock.

oh and speaking of status effects, there's a unique which is one of my favorite in the game:

Freezing Shock Nova.
think about it :)
Alva: I'm sweating like a hog in heat
Shadow: That was fun
^Crit + the lightning element only makes the element more profound.

What i mean is, it scales from extremely low end to impressive high end hits and a crit on a low-end roll will only do so much.

A crit on a top end with lightning though, can shred rares and map bosses in a few strokes.

I wish there was a unique that said "your lightning damage is lucky", that combined with crit would be a treat to watch.

I've got a tri-elemental crit trapper, and my shock nova traps have 503% crit multi. It truly does feel like a nuke when a bunch of those babies go off :)

Take theirs out.

I'm sorry. Your Profile shows an occultist, lvl 88, thus i assumed it was this char. My apologies. 80% crit should be fine. But still, as others have said, critmulti isn't the best support. It might well be the case that you need some ridiculous gear for shocknova - voidbattery and the likes.

(@biyte: yes, echo is a multiplier, but its a castspeed/castamount multiplier, not a multiplier that multiplies the base damage of a single cast. But its obviously a must use support for most spells.)

My 88 occultist is a elemental overload lightning tendril using singularity unique with double curse, it does insane damage.
The character im talking about is a level 82 trickster , iv chose trickster for the mana notables, shock nova costs a lot.
Another day , Another chaos
Get blasphemy + lightning penetration imho.

We cannot see your tree so we cannot know if you have enough mana nodes for example.
You have +53 mana and +0% mana regeneration from your gear, that's not going to help about the mana, and since we do not know your three, no way to guess if you speced properly, because with a little bit of investment, you could potentialy drop tricker and go assassin, and if you are playing crit without Niche mechanics .... assassin is just the best option imho.
SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.
