GFG - Account just got hacked, lost all my valuable stuff

Moments ago, account just got hacked,i kept getting dc'd, saying someone else was logging into my account, then i requested to reset password sent to my email, and here i am now with all my orbs gone and valuable stuff, in deed this is a big RIP.
I don't use any programs that would risk anything, im as legit as they come. Unfortunately, i was really starting to get into this game and i honestly do think it's a pretty awesome game and i do believe from what i read that GGG doesn't restore anything that was hacked. So, i am not sure how i am going to recover from this, since all my valuables are gone and i had quite a big stash of orbs. In addition, in the back of my mind, if by any chance i decided to continue playing this game and hoping i can catch up and recover, what's to say the same thing won't happen again ? At this point, i am very tempted in just forgetting about this game as much as it hurts me to say. Don't know what to do, pretty disappointed right now. I honestly don't know either how it happened so that i can avoid it better in the futur, cuz i honestly am very careful, i don't really navigate into sites that can risk my account to be compromised and i certainly don't use any 3rd parties or secondary programs or however it is called, i just play the game in the most legit possible way. I'm torn right now... |

Quick question - can you list all the PoE related websites you used? You may not have installed an app that got you, but there is an idea that some third party website (that many users have foolishly used the same user/pass to as their game) has been hacked, accounting for all these recent account compromises.

If you seriously have no logins on any other poe sites and use a completely unique password for your poe acct (as in youve never used that password before ever) and you have no third party poe programs...the only thing left is if someone is getting info directly from poe somehow...
Honestly every time i see one of these I check my toon from the web site heh. Im in the same boat, no outside logins, 100% fresh strong password, no programs...so if I ever get hacked I KNOW someone got my info directly from here... Last edited by Psyborg#3642 on Feb 21, 2013, 3:57:41 AM

Would creating an account on the PoE wiki page count as risky? Not to many people. What if they used the same user/pass as their PoE account? Now it's "risky" because if the wiki doesn't store the account info securely and they get hacked, the hacker can try the user/pass to log into PoE to see if it works there too. Doesn't matter how strong your password is at that point, if it is the SAME as the one that was stolen, it will be used in an attempt. I am still sitting here in awe in how it happened and still debating right now what i should do, carry on or not.... I've seen somewhere about a path of exile authenticator? Does anyone know how///if that really works ? If so, i will strongly suggest to carry on with the authenticator. As for having any other logins of poe sites, that would be a no to that, didn't even know there was more than 1 official poe site ? I am only using this one for login. I have been visiting some other site where i could check the quest reward gems from different classes, here i'll link it, but obviously don't click on it if by the looks it's what got me in trouble, and there's definitely no log in there, but here it is : http://blackrabbit2999.blogspot.com/2012/07/path-of-exile-quest-gem-reward-list.html I definitely have no 3rd party, in every game that i play, i play the original version with no corruption. Chris is pushing to finish additional security measures within the next 2 days.
I'm positive that this will continue to be investigated even after those measures are in place, and that GGG will continue to be forthright about the issue. |

Just checked your character, it seems it was sitting in the HC Ladder. It seems the hacker was targeting players in the ladder.
