party fps drop reason?

Lovely game and all but totaly single player. During solo play everything is super, but as soon as someone else joins a map it all goes to hell.
As soon as someone else starts using visual skill effects near me it lags like armaggedon, if there also is some kind of ground map mods effects (chilled, tar, chaos, fire) game becomes unplayable. This is only when im in a party, solo play is smooth. pc spec: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz, 6MB GIGABYTE H97-HD3 AMD Radeon R9 390, 8GB GEIL memory 16GB(8GBx2) PC3 12800 1600Mhz Kingtson HyperX Fury SSD 2.5" 240GB (game installed on it) Monitor BENQ XL2411z (if it matters) all chipset, video and sound drivers updated to latest. any ideas? if you open the "graphics" tab in poe's settings, does it show that poe is correctly identifying and using your card?

jonathan mentioned something about amd cards in the last podcast, don't know exactly what he was refering to but it sounded that there are still some issues.
--- did you check temperatures on the gpu/cpu when you play such areas? ground effects in poe can still cause alot of stress for the hardware. --- please also consider the network latency playing in a party can cause. the player who opens a area (instance) defines on which game server the instance is opened. you temporarily play on that other game server then. to check your current server just press 'tab' ingame. pressing F1 will show your latency. playing with lockstep enabled and having high latency will also make your game stutter and bring your fps down. age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill! " there are no stress factors on the hardware at all, barely pass over 30-40% cpu/hdd usage also temparatures are not above normal. When there are many visual skill effects+ground effects fps graph drops from 300ish to 15-20. Whats a lockstep ? |

lockstep and predictive mode are different implementations to sync your client's game state with the game server.
lockstep forces a hard sync before any client action is executed, predictive let's you do the action and corrects it later if the server doesn't allow it. you want a low latency to the server for keeping the delay low which lockstep naturally introduces because of that. --- can't really help you any further with the radeon problem. ggg lately improved their particle system, things are much smoother for me with bigger groups of enemies and burning ground but that's on a gtx780. your cpu supports avx so you should have profited from the particle improvement mentioned above?! so just make sure you enabled "multithreading" in the game's options. maybe other radeon users can help. age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill! " Path of Exile has two networking modes available; - Lockstep causes the client to only show what the server tells it has happened. This means that the game can appear to freeze or stutter if high latency / packet loss is present. - Predictive gives the client the ability to immediately render what it guesses is likely to happen next - for example, if you try to run forward and the server fails to respond, the client will assume the command was accepted and show your character moving forward. This means what the client is showing and what the server believes is happening can fall out of sync, and you may suffer 'rubber banding' when the client syncs with the server - your character can appear to teleport to where the server believes it should be located. Hmm , I use multithreating but it has absolutely no effect in comparision to what it felt like before it was introduced (2.4 I belive).
Im fairly new to the game (started in prophecy league) I read the atlas patch notes and hoped that the new multi-core-support will help but it changed absolutly nothing in party mode. so as I understand it, there is nothing to be done? only thing left is to pray that the new (planned) directX support will help? |
