+3 gems 1H axe

First time I've seen a +3 gem level drop;but is it useful for anything or was I just trolled by RNG?
What melee skill could benefit the most?

Elemental Hit. And I'm not even trolling. It's the only melee skill that gains substantial flat damage bonus per gem level, as opposed to most melee gems, which get one or two % added to their base damage.

you get some nice alchemy shards for it

I'll give EH a try, never played it so... Otherwise, a few alch shards won't hurt.

I'm not sure if a +10 weapon could save Elemental Hit...but if you want to try anyways, recommend Slayer w/innate Melee Splash. Realize this: your damage will be coming from a 3L one-handed weapon gemmed up with what is widely considered the weakest skill in path of Exile.

I...don't see that going well. Or lasting for very long.

EH is the skill that would benefit the most, but the +3 cant compensate for lack of links. +3 on 1H can be useful for some builds but not in case its +2 melee.. it is lucky roll but does not result in good item.

If you do want to do a 1h weapon ele hit build, with ele hit in the weapon, you would probably want +2/+1 on a fast attack speed weapon like a rapier, instead of a 1.35 axe.

Yeah, it's not even decent, def a troll item... :-(

what if it's a +3 on a 2-hander? Would EH be okay-ish then? Could use lv4 empower.

still sub-optimal. builds that scale from added elemental damage greatly benefit from attack speed. fast 1H with links in a chest (with no +level) would still outperform the fastest rare +3 2H. and added damage from other sources (items, auras,..) would make the difference greater.
