Best single-target spell for Mjolner?

I made a Mjolner build and so far it's coming along well - I'm level 71 currently (in hc essence). But even though I'm killing packs of monsters pretty quick, I'm starting to notice a severe lack of single-target damage when it comes to map bosses.
I'm using Lightning Strike as my main ability:

And spark in Mjolner:

Unfortunately, I don't have 25 vaal orbs lying around at the moment, so I can't add lightning penetration to it.
What spell would be the best in my case for single-target damage? For bosses and stuff.

In 2.4 with the moljnir change, it is definitely storm call, shock nova is slightly (about 14% more dmg) better but only if you can hit target with both rings.

Swap Lightning strike to molten strike gmp lmp for single. And use Stormcall - Litpen - ConcAoe

Edit: forgot to mention, if your juggernaut, discharge will be better (about 50%+ more damage than storm call if you can have 9 end charges max) even with the trigger nerf (that is assuming you can actually get the same damage increases when starting from juggernaut class vs another class). This is only for juggernaut tho, for any other class, storm call wins in damage for single target.

The thing is, I'm not feeling particularly comfortable going close-combat with bosses because some of them hit really bloody hard. So I don't know about molten strike idea... I feel like i'll just die faster if I do that.
The initial plan with this build was to get sort-of melee build but still get an opportunity to maintain some distance for defense and safety. It didn't work out so great when it came to boss-killing, as it turns out :D

Well, if your using assasin, you should definitely go on the offensive imo. Molten strike on gmp-lmp hits at the very minimum 3 times as much as lightning strike vs single target; I noticed that your using WED&phystoLit on your lightning strike, the thing is tho, most of your damage when using moljnir is coming from the spells, so that doesn't help much.

You'd see far more damage if you replaced WED with Multistrike and focused on spell damage.

For the ranged aoe setup you can run LS - Multi - FA - Knockback - Blind(or chance to flee) - Life gain on hit

which you can swap to Molten strike - fortify/LGoH(or conc aoe if you are always going to use molten strike as it will allow your molten balls to hit smaller sized single target bosses better) - multistrike - FA - LMP - GMP without having to rechrome

Idk your budget in HC but i would've done it like this if starting with shadow (assuming you can get the gear):



with rainbow stride/aegis/lapis amulet + rumis & tempest shield you can get max 74/74 block (75/75 if you use that increased flask eff jewel, this jewel will also make your resistance flakes give +8% max res instead of +7%). For the other flasks you can run surgeons fire/lightning and basalt, with shadow base you should be able to crit enough on molten strike setup to recharge the flask (havn't tested but you should be able to). Rumi's can last like 10 seconds with full charges which should be enough for you to facetank and burst down your normal bosses (the ones without multiple phases in a single fight). Lastly, if you can corrupt lapis for 6% damage taken to mana or use a praxis then you will be good with damage mitigation for MoM when you use rallying cry. And then if you party yourself with a guardian (either grand spectrum or your regular aura support, both are extremely helpful with this setup) then you will have even less to worry about survivability). As for the chest piece, you can swap to something like belly of beast or some AR/ES chest to boost aegis.

Thank you for your advice! You gave me some food for thoughts. I will process the information and think how could I best re-arrange my gems and stuff.
By the way, I just tried q15 ball lightning and it was surprisingly effective on bosses. The damage seems good and the amount of projectiles flying toward bosses is high enough that melee guys can't even get close to me because of knockback.

This is good advice, but I don't think those links make sense for a B-R-R corrupted mjolnir. Instead use Storm Call - Less Duration - Iron Will until you can afford to recolour.
