Enable Windows Aero if you play in Borderless Window
After noticing how much my FPS peaks when PoE was made the inactive window, a little Googling turned up aero actually helps Borderless Window function properly. I went from barely maintaining 60fps in my hideout to 200+ fps and sweet jesus, 300+ fps in a map.
I had disabled Desktop Windows Manager because it would occasionally crash and I had no real use for Aero. Re-enabling on startup and turning aero on fixed all my issues. =========================== Original Post =========================== I get the full FPS in Fullscreen. In both Borderless Windowed and Windowed mode, the FPS is halved. However, in Windowed mode, simply clicking the taksbar doubles the FPS (back to fullscreen values). The game is still being rendered in full, it has not been minimised, the window is exactly the same, its just that PoE is no longer the active window. The same issue can be replicated in Borderless Windowed mode by just holding alt and tab and not switching to another program. PoE is still being rendered under the windows program switching menu and does so at full FPS. Can someone explain what is going on here? It feels like PoE doesn't recognise when it is the active window and spends its time in some sort of lower priority mode when active, and goes back to high priority when inactive. interesting discovery, thanks for posting it.
there is me thinking win aero was just a huge resource sink... age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!
