Computer Shuts Down completely, only in POE

I saw the other thread that suggested I make my own.

Only while playing POE (while in a map and fighting mobs, various skills) my pc will completely shut down. No BSOD or anything, it just shutsdown like the power went off in my home.

This pc runs any other game 24/7 and never a crash. It's only happening with POE.

I've never experienced this crash until this month and it's daily.

PC hardware

I7-2600k @3.40GHz

ASUS P8P67 LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

RAM 8.00gb - 2x Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model 996782

Nvidia GTX 780Ti version 372.70

CORSAIR TX Series CMPSU-650TX 650W

SanDisk Ultra II 2.5" 960GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SDSSDHII-960G-G25

Win10 64bit

Razer Taipan mouse and Anansi keyboard.

I use the California gateway and get 4ms connection.

Finally made it to the altas and crashed in the island map, log back in to Softcore :(

You're forcing me to play SC.. grrr

To many particle effects killing my cpu?

Can you suggest a program so i can monitor my temps while playing?

Im going to reseat my gpc with new paste and verify its clean. i want to think this game just just cooking my gpc with all the effects...

Anyway I hope this helps you find out whats triggering these crashes. There's alot of people getting this now.

You know there are people playing on max setting with worse PC's without problems so particle effects is not what's causing it.

Over heating maybe.

Usually when a system shuts down it's related to a serious hardware issues such as the power supply being overloaded. If your PSU can't supply enough amperage along the 12V rails, those rails drop voltage to boost the current. Since Atlas launched, adding multithreading has caused issues for system that were used to running on just two threads (game engine and sound), but are now running on all threads and cores.

1.) Try disabling multithreading in your graphics settings.

2.) Run Furmark (burn in test) and Prime95 (just testing, all core, max heat) on your system at the same time. Let it run for a good hour to see if shutdowns on you.

3.) Try another power supply. At 650W (even if it's a good brand) and with a system that's running a 780 Ti and has been in use for years, you might be running out of power for 12V. Capacitor aging plays a role in all systems, both in your power supply and on devices (VRMs on motherboard and video card).

Also, it wouldn't hurt to run DXDiag to get information about your system. Use a service such as http://pastebin.com to copy and paste your DXDiag report, then link it here. Guide: https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/pc/how-to-gather-dxdiag-information/

I was hoping it was temps. I just ran 6 maps ( with wild strike setup to create crazy particle effects) and my CPU temps never went over 40-48c. The fan stayed in optimal RPM. It doesn't look like Im cooking my CPU or GPU.

Is there a way to monitor your PSU output to tell if thats crapping out, thats all I can think.

It's interesting that running POE does this to my system, no other games trigger this overheating like shutdown.

You won't be able to monitor voltage via software from the total output of your power supply unless you have an EPU motherboard and EPU compatible power supply.

You can monitor voltage to CPU, GPU, etc. For example: http://openhardwaremonitor.org/. Or RivaTuner.

Ideally a good old fashioned multimeter would do wonders.

PoE now does multithreading. Not many games do multithreading, even many AAA titles don't do pure multithreading (usually a thread for engine and one for sound, etc. like PoE used to be).

Your best bet to determine if it's your system is to run Furmark and Prime95 as I suggested earlier... those combined, running at the same time, will let your know if your system is unstable.
