Need help with my Character build/performance

As tittle says I'd appreciate someone to check and rate my Duelist "Quorth" and give me some tips to improve it, because I feel It's severely underperforming.

This is the first character I get to Merciless and Maps, and my second ever character in PoE. I've not used any guides so far so you're likely to find everything less than "optimal"

I can clear any mob pack fast and easy as long I don't dive to the middle of the thing, but bosses are a different story. My single target DPS sucks and I find I'm being oneshot too many times, I can't even kill Merc Malachai and most Map bosses force me to back atleast once to refill flasks, if I dont straight up die in a blink of an eye. And yes, I have my Elemental resistances capped when I need them, I have rings with dual resist for it when the need arises.

The build I made for this char I based around the idea of a Dual Wielding Berserker/Draintank/Bleeder ... It was coming very nice until recently, where Map bosses and Malachai completely carved my duelist a new face.

Ok, my nitpick list:

- you got little or no life on too many gear, buy better armor pieces and jewelry
- also, you should have capped resists at all times, not just on demand, take care of that with gear and spec out of those resistance passives at marauder start
- your weapons are godawful, buy better ones
- you will be able to get rid of that life on hit jewel once you get better weapons and start leeching more
- if you plan on using Reave get Vaal Reave too
- get Soul of steel and at least two extra endurance charges, maybe an extra frenzy and one more from merciless bandit, gladiator can generate them effortlessly with outmatch and outlast, awesome passive
- buy a 5 link chest and use a few chaos on it until you hit something usable

What are you using Dual Strike for? If it is single target then you should drop Melee Splash but you really should not even need a single target skill with Reave. I would drop Life Gain on Hit for Reave and add in Melee Physical Damage, you should have enough sustain with all your leach. Also I would go for Resolute Technique if you are not going crit and if you are going crit then get some crit nodes and crit weapons. Reave is also very good using 1 good weapon with a stat stick in the offhand (it is cheaper too). Also as Raics said life, resists, weapon(s), 5 link.

Merciless Malachai is also notably harder than starter maps. I mean I haven't even faced him and my character is level 81.

Where do I buy these things? The "better weapons and chest". Do you mean from other players? I've pretty much only used what drops to me. Ocassionally improved with the Essences from the league

Of course, that's what you're supposed to be doing in an online game. You've been having a hard time because you have been playing self-found, that one is usually regarded as an extra level of challenge for those bored with the game.

What most players do is save up their orbs instead of using them on gear so they can buy what they need. Use poe.trade web service to find stuff you need and contact sellers, don't even attempt to use trade chat.

EDIT: Followed most of the advice here, including buying new gear from players. My dual strike DPS tooltip went from 5k to 11k
