I always thought that "igniting for x% of overkill damage" meant that is the ignite damage per second. Normally, increasing or reducing ignite duration doesn't change the per second ignite amount, so I figured it just meant how much damage was done per second.
Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:

I know that "enemies burn faster" means ignite lasts shorter but deals more damage.
I don't know what increasing burn duration would do. |

" From the ignite wiki page: "Increasing the duration of the Ignite, either via Temporal Chains or the % increased Ignite duration modifier, causes the ignite to deal the same damage per second for a greater period of time." They wouldn't have so much ignite duration on the tree if it made it do less damage per second. " I never really looked into it since it never seemed worthwhile. No leech, damage is based on the initial hit anyways, and requires uniques in order to surpass the initial hit in damage. I had planned on looking into it at some point for Burning Arrow, as Ele Prolif would be a great one-socket swap into AOE capability. |

Yes, it is X% of overkill damage over 4 seconds. It is as if you did an imaginary fire attack of X% damage to calculate your ignite.
It would be quite broken if not, doing over 100% of overkill damage per second, improved by your DoT, Ignite and Fire damage, would mean you could easily burn a mob with over 8 times the target mob life :P (If you 2 shot the mob, with the first one leaving it in low life) |
