hate on the game as much as you want I'm having a blast playing it. It's one of the best and most original game I have played in a long time.

A cursory google search shows NMS does have performance issues for PC.

I'd buy it for PC if I didn't have to get it through steam.

Like I've said, it's a very good exploration game, probably the best space sci-fi exploration game and a great survival Crafting game.


it is not a multiplayer game or a mmo, it is not an action game, it's rather slow paced. If you're looking for something very action shooter and space war oriented you're in the wrong direction.

But if you're looking for exploration and adventure give it a try.


To put it simple, it's a very good game but a niche genre. So if it's your type of stuff you will adore it, if it's not your type of game you will find it rather boring.



on a personal note: I just found a luxurious planet with so many vegetation and huge walking mushrooms like creature that are rather aggressive.

The game runs fine for me. It has the occasional hickup when you first enter the game, or on a new planet, but I suspect that has something to do with the CPU being bottlenecked out when it generates terrain. Its not the best optimized game, but its definitely not the worst I've seen either. It runs better than PoE did the last time I played it.

Simple tweaks you can do for all PCs:

- Go into settings, TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS.MXML (open with notepad), change Gsynch to "false" unless you've got a Gsynch monitor. Most people don't.

- Go into AMD or Nvidia control panel and override the games AF to x16. The in game AF is really crummy. I did this with zero performance impact.

- Force Vsynch to override the game's Vsynch in your control panel. And enable Open GL triple buffering. This game uses Open GL. This combo gives you more consistent FPS if you want to play with Vsynch on & no screen tearing.

- (optional) - override the games AA and use AA supported by your graphics drivers instead. I did this and it looks better than the game's AA and for less of a performance hit.

- Set shadows to "medium". Shadows increase your CPU load, and this game is CPU bound.

- My brother has a Radeon 7950, and told me he got a performance improvement by capping tessellation in AMD's profile to x32. Not sure how much the game uses, but its probably more than x32. Older AMD cards are notoriously bad for tessellation.

- A lot of people are getting lag when flying around. Change the FOV on your ship from 75 to 60. You can edit the ini file to set FOV even lower if you want. The same can be done with players.

Other notes: Performance and frame rates largely depends on which planet you're on. If you're on one of those barren worlds with not much going on with flora, fauna, etc, then it'll run considerably faster than on a world with an abundance of both. I was on this planet earlier with penis shaped plants coming out of the ground everywhere with red grass that looked like long nipples, and constant toxic storms and high winds. Performance hit was pretty huge over a barren planet.

omg this morning I had my best moment so far in the game. drop on a new planet look nothing special during night and explore an abandonned building. When I get out I see the sun rising in a teal green sky and blue grass with wonderfull creature that sing like brachiosaur in Jurassic parc, The scene was so perfect.
