[2.3] Dual Bladefall Totems Build Chieftain - Hardcore focus build

This is my current build. Making this post mainly to share with a friend, but as a bonus, I'm sharing it with everyone :)

Updated on July 11th with the latest tweaks.

Credit for the build to LucasD Gaming

The base for this build was taken from this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_ClF-O8klU) from LucasD GaminG's youtube channel. I totally reccomend following him as he's as entertaining as he is informative when it come to Path of Exile. So, credit to him for the inspiration for this build.
As it is, the video leave quite a lot out, so this is me filling in the blanks with my addition to the base build.

This is a safe and solid build. So that mean it's a bit boring to play :) but when it come to hardcore, safe is a good thing.

As for DPS, at level 68, my bladefall totem is nearing 6k dps. And that is with gear that cost me about 10 CO (excluding the Tabula Rasa).
It is a fairly cheap build overall as you can be very efficient with rare gear that you'll pay 1 alch or less each. Only costly piece is the Tabula Rasa - Currently on the prophecie league, it goes for about 10 CO.

If you are on a super tight budget, you could probably skip the faster casting and/or the concentrated effect gems at the begining, thus allowing you to work with a 4 or 5 links chest. But I strongly suggest to save for a Tabula Rasa as soon as possible.

Long term, you'll want to upgrade the Tabula Rasa to something else. I plan on using a 6L Soul_Mantle as it would allow to use added lightning damage to the bladefall totem, but anything can do. With the Tabula Rasa, my resist are currently capped for Merciless.

As for the stats you want on your gear :
+ Life
+ Resist (whatever you need to cap them)
+ Spell Damage
+ Cast Speed
I went mainly with the +life and +resist and sprinkled the extra spell or physical damage and cast speed where I could.

Passive Tree

A note on the passive : Go for the ancestral bond asap. Once you get that, flesh out the tree as needed.
I went for a 1/2 and 1/2 approach splitting the points on life node and damage node alternativly.

Leveling

Early levels, I used Molten Strike (amazing starter spell)

As soon as possible, start using flame totem combined with your molten strike.

Bladefall is a level 28 spell, so keep using the flame totem and molten strike until then.

At level 28, switch the build to use a single bladefall totem (with whatever extra attacks you want - I kept using molten strike).

Once you unlock the ancestral bond passive (Around level 28-30), drop all the attacks other than the totems and start using the gems links that are described below.

My current gear

Note : The shield will be replaced with a Lioneye's Remorse when I hit 70.

This is a high armor build. Add some evasion and energy shield if you cap the armor rating.

Gem links

Main links : Bladefall + Spell totem + Added fire damage + Blood magic + Faster casting + Concentrated effect

Active buffs : Hatred + Herald of Ash
(Extra fire and cold damage to the bladefall totem)

Extra buff : Arctic Armor + Whatever gem you want. Really does not need any support :)
(Used this to reserve the last 25% mana and as a added mitigation. Not necessary but why leave 25% mana unused ?)

Curse : Vulnerability + Increased area of effect + Blood magic + Reduced mana support
(Not mandatory, but it's fun to use on rares and bosses. Also good to sped up killing large pack.
I use the reduced mana support because the socket fairy was not nice, but it can be replaced by Increased duration or whatever you want if you are more luck with the socket than I did)

Movement : Leap slam + faster attack + blood magic
(Could be changed for flame dash and faster casting if you prefer it)

Defence : Cast on damage taken + Immortal call + Molten Shell + Increased duration
(Pretty standard setup)

Utility : Cast on damage taken + Summon flame golem
(Flame golem give extra damage and this is a auto refresh)

This build use blood magic gems for all the attacks. The mana is used for auras. Arctic armor can be exchanged with something else. With a high level enlighten and a reduced mana reserve passive, Arctic armor could be replaced with a 35% mana reserve gem like Purity of elements.

Using this build

Just plop the totems and either fall back or run around the mobs avoiding their attacks. This build is fantastic at killing stuff offscreen :)

If anyone got some advices on how to make this better, do post a reply to this thread. The build work great but there is always room for improvement :)

I'm loving the heck out of this build! I'm using Soul Mantle now.

But I had a question, what were your Bandit choices? None of them seem especially good for this build besides the obvious +40 HP. So far I've gone Oak/perk/perk. What did you use?

Also, any changes going into 3.0? Any changes for the current patch? What are you currently using? I'm dying to know!
