Are 2H swords the best at... anything?

I've played crit frostblades build back in talisman, 2H swords were quite good in that build.

(a) why would anyone try to do that? With eternals no longer dropping it would take a significant number of mirrors worth of currency to craft a perfect crit exquisite blade. There are already exquisite blades that would've been considered to have all t1 mods in the past. These already have more PDPS than loath bane.

(b) The biggest advantages of loath bane are the attack speed and ability to use a shield. With instant leech from acuity (and spectral throw's damage multiplier allowing you to deal little enough damage in 1 hit so as to not 1-shot yourself to reflect) at that attack speed plus the extra survivability of a shield, you become totally invincible in ordinary gameplay.

No one has ever bought a loath bane and then though "wow, it sure would be nice if I could beat uber atziri 20% faster even if that would make me possibly die" (which would be the difference between pdps while dual-wielding loathbane vs a perfect exquisite blade).

There are three problems

1.
current melee meta is Earthquake which swords cannot be used

2.
sword's base dps is much worse than axe or mace

3.
2h sword's critical or attack rating bonus are useless since most 2h users are RT-based

2h crit sword is useless? you are doing it wrong, it's one of the highest dps source available

My fast attack Criterate build is ideal for a 2-Hand sword! :)

Not to mention Lacerate or Flicker builds that rely on high damage. There are options other than Earthquake.

Yeah, flicker is definitely the big candidate for 2h swords. I think 2h swords could see a meta shift that makes them the favorite, even though right now they aren't ideal for most weapon builds (most either want a 1h, or a non-sword 2h like a Hege's or a Disfavour). 2h swords have a lot going against them, but they're not without use. They are the best at something.

We need another aoe skill for swords.
