Dev Response on Melee Balance....
Going to start by saying I'm obsessed with your game, and you guys had your concepts down pat. Well Done.
I've checked the dev tracker from the last week and a half, and have seen nothing regarding buffs to melee or new skills for that. I just don't understand why this isn't getting more attention to be honest. It's a HUGE issue. I'm not saying I expect them to make these changes overnight, because I understand these things take time, but i've seen TONS of populated threads about melee imbalance and no Dev interaction at all. At the moment there are like... I don't know 7 or less strong late-game(level 75+) builds right now? Before anyone says groundslam or lightning strike templar. Those aren't melee. Melee means you're punching someone in the face, arms-length, toe-to-toe, whatever else you want to call it. Past this Marauders and Templar have a HUGE advantage compared to Shadow,Duelist,Ranger. Playing a Dex based melee right now even in A3 normal honestly just makes me want to break things. So lets consider this, in A3 Norm, a sweep Templar can clear 90% of a room with 2 sweeps. Whereas using whirling blades it would take about 4x as long. Now that's how much stronger LEGIT melee is over Dex based melee. Past that you have this faux melee business with groundslam that's about 2x stronger than sweep. Past that you have Kripps Freeze pulse build, add another x2. Then you have Lightning arrow.. add a x4. Literally like a Quarter of the builds in your game are unplayable past like level 35-40. If not unplayable then atleast immensely underpowered and inefficient. Please GGG I know you're doing your best but, the Shadow and Duelist are such cool, promising looking classes. It's frustrating to see cool abilities like Flicker Strike and Whirling Blades be so useless. Myself, and I'm sure plenty of others would just like to hear where fixing this is on your list of priorities. Last edited by Foreverhappychan#4626 on Feb 19, 2013, 7:02:38 PM

There's a .png floating around of a chat log that describes a lot of what GGG plans on doing for melee. They ARE going to add more skills for Melee and said that is what they want to prioritize soon.

Basically they're going to give all the melee characters 5k HP from level one and make it so they level 98 times as fast.
Also all melee skills will now insta-kill all mobs. Closed beta member since: March 19, 2012

People that add Cool story bro to things are gay as hell. Seriously, if you have nothing of value to add just go away. It stopped being funny or cool several years ago.

I don't honestly even ever expect melee to be as strong as Lightning Arrow or Freeze pulse is now, I do NOT expect that. What I do expect, is them to fix them so people can actually viably play a class that actually slashes things.

It's not a melee specific issue.
It's a dex issue. I specced out of hitting things because it becomes apparently by merciless that this is not how the game is meant to be played dex-melee based. I mean, I understand that there's maybe something coming, but no matter what they add really it'll be the same problem, the only way to effectively clear large groups of mobs that would otherwise kill you is to use str based aoe-"melee ranged"-skills. |

You make it sound so easy. "Just fix melee" is much harder than that.
In a game like this, difficult progression only has so far that it can go without increasing mob damage output. One-shots suck when they happen to you, but I feel like they are a necessary part of difficulty progression in a game like this. Maybe one-shots vs trash mobs shouldn't be a thing, but getting crit by 4 Pyromancer balls with Vulnerability on you really needs to kill you regardless. That's the problem with melee, in order to do damage, you need to be in a situation where you are going to get one-shot in end-game maps and there isn't really anything that can be done about that. By nature of HC, some builds will just NOT be viable end-game, why should melee builds get some sort of exemption from this? No build that does not take any +Life (or +ES in the case of CI) will ever be viable in HC, why are we not allowed to say the same for any build that focuses on melee? It's just the nature of the beast. ign: weaklygdlk
