Why Bow Templar? instead of say Ranger?

Why templar? at higher level im finding it very sub par to ranger.

Easy access to a lot of +elemental damage nodes from his own tree and the witch tree, as well as a lot of conveniently located health and defense nodes. The Templar seems to trade some of the raw DPS of the Ranger for more survivability and a focus on elemental damage.
