It probably uses aura mechanics like some other effects, but it shouldn't count as an aura unless they messed up something. It absolutely should and does count as an aura, due to literally being an aura. It is not, however, an Aura Skill, nor is it an Aura you Cast. It's just an aura you get for having the passive. Thus it does not benefit from either of the specific modifiers to auras on Champion of the Cause, which are: increased radius of Aura Skills, and increased effect of non-Curse Auras you Cast.
