Is melee gameplay GGG's benchmark for the state of game difficulty?

It's not a 13 week development cycle, it's a 13 week supporter-pack cycle.
You can play any build you want, as long as it's the current meta.
So, this league is full of melee players. You could have bought a Disfavour for a couple of exalted after a month of league in Perandus; now, the lowest price is 12ex for an unlinked one.


I think melee players deserves some changes, something that should make them competitive and a bit less weapon-dependent like casters. I think that the melee lacks of choices regarding the boost of melee physical damage besides the passive points and the Melee Physical Damage support (the on on Full Life is good only for CI melee); i would like to see more melees that aren't forced to improve elemental damage just because the gems/auras they can use do this (i'm referring especially to added fire and hatred/HoA). And some new godly unique weapons in order to use something different than the Disfavour.

The real problem is the monsters in this game. Every single fucking monster explodes, leaves something that explodes when it dies. Has a degen aura. Most monsters are targeted towards hurting melee.

Fortify was a lazy "fix" to what they thought was wrong with melee.


Fortify is such a cancer. They introduced it to make "the game easier for the melees", but they also did increase by a lot the damage of the monster. It's not optional, it's simply mandatory.

I agree. I think non-crit melee could definitely benefit from a larger pool of support gems.

Thats only because quake is hot. and quakes is about as melee as flame blast lol.. just a spell by another name

If there were a couple of unique weapons with same damage but with different mechanics compared to Disfavour, then that axe would have a "normal" price. The price it has now is totally insane, it doesn't only depends on the fact that you can spam EQ with it. It's the lack of other choices that brings up the price so high.

12 ex is hardly high, when you realize a short while ago it was a 50ex+ item.
Perandus just had everything dropping too easily.

Secondly, EQ does not benefit much from spamming it, since the explosion only procs once. soo even a slow 0.5 second hit is decent enough. which is easy to get to with any weapon.

Most importantly,
Melee can not be balanced by items being more readily available. Instead it needs to be mechanically changed to make single target skills more viable. Mostly it needs to feel less clunky to use those types of skills. Melee splash needs to be improved , along with the auto targeting of melee skills.

Single target skill will only be "viable" when the speed of the game will be nerfed to 90%, like it was some years ago. Actually is totally impossible to balance single target skills.
