How do prefixes and suffixes work?
I get how they work, but I don't have any items with prefixes or suffixes.
For example: Neither "beast" nor "branch" are prefixes. I'm trying to figure out if I want to do some crafting on a nice white blue item I got, but I can't for the life of me figure out how the hell to see what mods are on it. |

I'm still confused with how this system works exactly and how to reliably identify affixes, but as for your question, from the wiki:
On a magic item, the name of the item depends on the prefix and suffix modifications applied to it. For example, a Long Bow with the "Frosted" prefix modification and the "of Impact" modification would be named "Frosted Long Bow of Impact". Rare items have their names randomly generated from a list of rare names and do not follow this principle. |

" Oh ok so mob dropped rares don't follow the pattern. But if I craft up a rare from a magic item, it will? |

The name of a rare item has no direct link to the stats on the item. An easy way to prove this is the fact that there are Exalted Orbs. An exalted orb adds one property to a rare item that has less than 6 properties. When you do this, the name stays the same.
For magic (blue) items, each prefix and suffix has a name and associated integer roll. Magic items can roll 1-2 properties. Rare items can roll 4-6 properties. The only way to get a 3 property rare item is to use a Regal Orb on a magic item, giving it 1 more property and making it a rare item. Rare items can have no more than 3 suffixes and no more than 3 prefixes. |
