Onyx is not bad. It is one of the best amy bases. 3*16 = 48 stats, which is as good as a dual stat and better than single stat ones. It really depends on the build's requirements if a specific base is "good" or "bad" for you.

This is precisely the trap in my opinion. Speaking of me, I never need 3 stats badly, but I always really need one, maybe two. That's why I prefer mono/dual stats implicits as they give higher values.
And this is precisely the situation of OP.

When two witches watch two watches, which witch watches which watch?
If the witches watching watches watch the same watch while you watch which witch watches which watch, they switch watches; then, the watch switching witches watch which watch you watch.
Watching witches watch watches is not for the faint of heart...

I think perhaps it's better to suggest that Onyx might be sub-optimal if you're crafting your own amulet, but if you're just IDing or buying, any jewelry item that has the right stats is a good piece of jewelry.

It's also worth considering the benefits of a good roll Onyx in certain circumstances. Let's say you're a melee build seeing additional Int and Dex. Yes, you could get just the Int and Dex because you need them but there's a hidden bonus for you in the +XX to all attributes. For every 10 Strength you obtain you receive 2% increased melee physical damage as well as 5 to maximum life. So if you can get an Onyx with a total of 50 to all attributes you're not only solving your Int and Dex problems, you're also gaining 10% increased melee physical damage and a flat 25 life too.

I think it's worth considering as an option.
