Exploding mobs

Hi,

I am lvl 95 arc witch with 6150 hp, 1400 e, full resists, Mind over Matter, 1200 mana, staff user.

Suicider come to me explode or when I shoot he runs into me and when dies explode.

I died 3 times because of that in single map lvl 12. They can not be avoided as they are behind corner or when shoot they rush close and shooting animation can not be stopped.

How you deal with them? How many hp or resists is needed? What is their real damage? How their aura look like? Its only yellow or blue mob as well? What is name of that auras?

Thx

Gl

You probably encountered some rares with volatile fire/ice/stormblood mod. On death they deal 300-360% of their main hand damage as fire, cold or lightning. If they have additional mods that increase their damage or the map has extra monster damage mods, this on death damage will be further scaled.

Unfortunately they are hard to spot (move the mouse and read the mod text) and with the right (err wrong) combination of mods you'll get one hit no matter how big your life pool is.

How to avoid? Decoy totem can help or anything else that can draw their aggro away from you so that you can retreat to a safe distance.

One thing that makes them slightly easier to spot now is that, as with all nemesis rares, they have an orange glow instead of the yellow one of normal rares.

But of course, the orange glow comes with any nemesis mod, so you still have to mouse over to check. Just have to be more careful with the orange ones.

A healthy degree of caution when walking around can also help. The range on volatile blood is pretty small, so if you make a habit of staying a little distance away from mobs unless you know for a fact they present no threat then you can save yourself some pain. Likewise, it's generally a good idea not to run into new situations without having a peek from the edge of your screen first.

I play an elemental equilibrium witch, currently level 85. 2300 HP, 4700 ES. Not quite up to T12 maps yet but I've played some T7-T9. My general strategy is to throw up a shock nova totem to (hopefully) attract the enemies, then a firestorm or two on top of it and finally pepper the area with GMP ice spear. When approaching a corner or doorway I use the totem to check if it's safe. Totem and firestorm can also be used to kill enemies around corners without line of sight.

The actual suicide mobs (Alira's martyr, unstable larva and whatever that beetle was called) don't seem to do that much of damage unless several explode at once.
Hi,

thx to all of U.

".. combination of mods you'll get one hit no matter how big your life pool is."

I am not fan of Golems, totems or shields. Is there some way how to survive that unexpected encounter for Witch with staff besides what was written above?

Is that even possible? By what wrote Bada_Bing seems not...

Txh for suggestion or confirmation.
If misdirecting enemies with minions isn't your style, you could try increasing your mobility or tanking ability. You may need to alter your playstyle anyway, depending on how you currently play.

More movement speed makes it easier to run away from enemies.

More cast speed reduces the time for the cast animation, allowing you to move sooner.

Temporal chains makes enemies move slower and take longer to reach you.

Enfeeble makes enemies do less damage, possibly preventing them from one-shotting you.

All curses they will affect enemies around corners provided they're close enough. The curse symbol also makes them more visible to you.

Frost wall can be used to block enemies, especially in a narrow corridor.

Arctic armour gives physical and fire damage reduction. It also creates chilled ground in your wake, making it more difficult for enemies to pursue.

Granite flask increases your armor, reducing physical damage.
So I tried with Kaom's Heart. Got 7.6k hp, but its not working against physical damage. Died twice on map with 150% icreased dmg with faster cast and movement speed etc. Lightning Coil without troubles, but hp is 6150. Well, lets make xp from zero again, but have direct experience and that counts.

So for now I will play only map to lvl 11 where there is no trouble with reflect or exploding mobs.

I was using temporal chains and enfeeble before but found its not necessary. Seems for lvl 12 maps and higher it comes to game again.

I will utilize golem with higher hp and movement speed so it can act as "shield". Hope its going to work to jump into room and back and golem does agro. Going to try out if that gonna work.

If you find the golem won't work, try using something that will slow them down and keep them away from you (wither totem, frost wall, bear trap all work nicely).

Another option is it use max resistance potions. Against 'Volatile Stormblood', for eg, you can use a topaz flask to reduce the damage you take.
Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:

Blasphemy + Temporal Chains to slow the suckers down. Add in a Increased Area of Effect gem in that link to boost the range.

Just my two cents.
So tried with enfeeble, temporal chains include aura. It is not helping for "room" based maps nevertheless not problems with with open spaced maps lvl 12 and above.

In map lvl 14 Piety - one lightning storm - one first hit, game over. With full hp and mana.

I was checking what builds r viable to play maps 12 and above and I found zero Arc hp builds. All are with es 9000 and more and no arc there. None of build going for level 95 and beyond is confronting directly with mobs. Only damage over time, totem or summoners with high es - tactics forth and back.

Seems like end game is playable with only few builds. I am not sure if I am disapointed or what that feeling I have now, after so many tries, but end game is not for hardcore players but for those who will listen what game is asking - its like tunnel vision - only one way to achieve goal. Build I made can go safely only to maps lvl 11, higher maps safely only with open spaced where elemental damage can be one hit dead no matter what u do and that is more dangerous in "room" based maps.

Game over with this build. Playable only up to level 11 maps = will get boring soon. I was using Call of the Brotherhood too, but solo elemental is faster and more enjoyable.
