Question about Boss Checkpoint Respawn Mechanic

So I just finished my very first play through Normal with my very first toon. So far really enjoying it. The game is an awesome throwback to my old days of playing Diablo 2! Playing an Arc Templar - really easy build to play (just hold down right click and watch the mobs fall) but nice and relaxed to get to grips with the game and explore the artwork and some of the story/lore. Also someone randomly gave me a Lifesprig wand when I was turning in a quest at like, level 5 or 6 - so that was awesome and still using it at level 40 (thank you random person!).

Anyway... My question really became apparent in Act 4 with the concentration of boss fights toward the end.

I don't understand why the devs have the Boss instance mechanic where you can walk in, attack a couple times, get 2-shotted, die, rez at checkpoint (which is the door to the boss), attack a couple more time, get 2-shotted (maybe 3 or 4-shotted if you are paying attention to fight mechanics), die...repeat till dead.

It just felt too easy and a bit cheap. I mean I struggled with a few mobs out in the wild throughout the various Acts, sometimes a big mob guarding a chest in a particularly narrow corridor of a dungeon. And when I died, I had to run back, play it safe, and eventually beat them with a nice victorious feeling. But when that happened with some of the bosses, when I finally beat them, I didn't get the nice "hooray" feeling because I died and respawned so many time.

Typically in other games if you die and respawn, at the very least the boss resets to 100% health.

So why not in this game?

Not that I am complaining, I couldn't have gotten through those Act 4 bosses without additional farming/grinding if this mechanic didn't exist. Just curious.

You'll get no experience at all with that kind of strategy
well that's what I figured...but the xp wasn't dropping.

so what's the xp penalty for each difficulty mode, then?

must be 0% for normal and I'm guessing from what you're saying is that it gets worse as you go up?

thanks for info :)
guess what just happened...

I just launched the game and the load screen tip told me that there is an xp penalty in cruel and merciless :D :D :D

Yes, 5 and 10% respectively. So when you choose to zerg rush cruel/merci boss, be sure to level up just before doing it :)
And worst change is putting almost all bosses in new version of maps into fucking small areas, where you can't kite well or dodge stuff. What a terrible idiot invented that I want say to him: dude flick you, seriously flick you very much.
Welcome to the game friend :D.

Nice of you to push on through the whole of normal , if you do it again in the future i can almost guarantee you you will have less deaths , or if you push on to cruel =).

nice to hear you enjoy the game , and i do hope you will be staying with us to explore wraeclast =)
