Mon'tregul's Grasp + Math = wat?
Was building a dual wielding armored summoner, thought it would be fun to wield 2 Mon'tregul's Grasps.
The bonus says the number of zombies you can summon is -50% in exchange for larger, tankier zombies. I thought the equation would take 50% off of the already reduced 50%.. so base of 8 zombies becomes 4, then 2 with a 2nd Mon'tregul's Grasp. However it seems that with 2 Mon'tregul's Grasp 8 total zombies are reduced by a stacked 100%.... Issue i have with this item is your 2nd Mon'tregul's Grasp prevents you from summoning ANY zombies at all. Can that change? or was it never intended for me to have 1-2 REALLY BIG badass zombie(s)? Going to assume you never bothered looking this up beforehand. Considering I and others have discussed this years ago.

Considering they have not changed it for a long while and has the reduced wording, GGG never intended us to have a massive tank zombie similar to D3's Gargantuan or the single zombie dog with Tall Man's Finger. Either they don't want it to ever happen or they haven't figured out how to balance it without it becoming mandatory for all zombie summoners. All Grasp is needed for is making 4 tougher tanks while spectres do all the damage. Once you reach a certain point, duel wielding midnight bargain is probably better when you can go 75% chaos resist low life. I became disenchanted by how amazing Mon'tregul seemed a long time ago. Now Femurs of the Saints seems to be the best end game summoner I would want, and have, because I've been craving a spectre, zombie, totem skeleton, srs self casting for a while now. Been too busy to actually try it recently though even though summoner is what got me started on this game after messing around with a marauder to learn the game. "It's all clearer now

Personally using a Femur myself. (Since i can't dual wield monte's with a midnight bargain for 5 large zombies)
I just think a little more build diversity for summoners wouldn't be a terrible thing. If an archer can get 250k crit dps, why is it so unbalanced for me to have 1 or 2 20k hp zombies max. Just seems like there's some lost opportunity here. |

It says 'reduced', not 'less'. So of course they will stack additively. That is how everything in PoE works.
+1 to it being a lost opportunity though. Give us our 1 Mega Zombie! :) Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:

I don't play a summoner (my computer would lose it's mind >_>), but your inability to dual-wield Mon'tregul sounds sucky :/
I like the idea of sacrificing quantity for quality with regards to summons; not every necromancer wants to deal with a dozen undead doofuses all the time lol. "I could use these souls to create six mindless zombies...or a single, powerful lich. Who can cast magic. And wear badass skull armor. And have a conversation with me. Hmm...have to go with lich on this one." |

lol if it was actually 50% less instead of 50% reduced then you could actually have a small army of uber zombies, because it's theoretically possible to have 12 zombies max (3 default + 5 from tree + 1 chest cata's mod + 1 ullr + 2 eyes of the greatwolf with pluszombies mod)
12 > 6 > 3. you'd basically have the starting amount of zombies, but they have +4k hp, 60% inc res, 50% inc character size, 200% inc phys dmg and when they kill minions they do infernal blow. pretty sick shit but i agree, i think the mod should be 45% reduced zombies rounded (NOT FLOORED NOR CEILED), that way stacking two montgreuls would be 90% reduced, and 10% of 10 zombies is 1. i know this might not fit into this topic,but i love the idea of summoners in this kind of games.
I never went past level 40 when i tryed it since i hated the way specters wrok and from what i have heard it gets really bad when you go into higher maps since they scale down in level but not up (plz correct me if i´m wrong) since i dont wanna use specter i would only have acess to meele minions and i dont like it if there would just be a jewel that reduces the number of specter you have to 0 and for each specter you would have without it 1 of your zombies would be ranged |
