IIQ and maps and MF gear?
I just read this in this in a thread:
"The only thing that directly influences the drop rate of maps within a map is the IIQ of the map. The bonus from groups and gear do not influence this." Is this true and if so, man what a whole lotta suck...and I've been running my character through many, many maps at halfsies MF for nothing at a much weaker state. Only IIQ on the map itself affects drops. IIQ on gear does not.

Unless I have seriously misunderstood IIQ/IIR, I don't think that is right.
The only thing that affects map drops from chests, containers etc in a map is the IIQ of the map, not your gear. When killing monsters inside a map, it applies your IIQ + IIQ of the map to the quantity of items dropped, thus indirectly increasing your chance of map drops. You cannot actually influence the odds of a drop being a map, just make more items drop, thus making it more likely for a map to drop. ~Myth |

I has been said many times, that MAP drops in map are ONLY affected by map quantity. directly, ofc, you can increase it indirectly with monster quantity/rarity

" Yes. From the OP it seems like there was confusion around whether MF gear in a map is a waste when farming more maps. @OP it is not. More MF gear = more drops = more maps. |

" do you mean that with MF gear you get more drops so you can afford to buy more maps? other than that, no. MF on gear has no effect on map drops IGN: Eric_Lindros

" Exactly. Also see http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/49750, which states that only the IIQ on the map itself affects map drop rates. Player IIQ affects all other items that drop in the map ofc, and is thus far from wasted. (It is wasted for farming maps though.) So to get more map drops, you need chisels and/or vaal fragments. And afaik, adding these two methods are the ONLY way to increase map drops (well, leveling Zara is the third way I guess, but it does not help much). |

@Ludvator and @dfspspirit - Thanks for correcting my posts. I was indeed mistaken about IIQ and maps!
Sorry for the confusion @OP. As dfspspirit stated though, I still wouldn't call it wasteful to run IIQ in a map (unless it slows clear speed noticably) as it will still help you get enough currency to purchase more maps. ~Myth |

Excellent, now I understand:
IIQ/IIR gear still good for all drops within a map, except they don't apply to new maps dropped within the map your playing ( and neither do they apply to any map containers which ofc are not drops). Sound right? |

Map drop = super rng based and IIQ from items not affected map drop.
