[2.2] Avatar of Ice Trapper feat. Realmshaper, 6.5k life

The build is pretty simple: use Realmshaper's implicit Cold to Fire support to effectively create a 7-linked Ice Trap with tremendous, consistent burst damage while maintaining a massive health pool.

Defensively, the build uses a Bloodgrip to boost instant flasks into recovering 2,000 life per sip. It also uses Kaom's Heart to reach a hefty 6,500 life pool, and boasts 40%/46% dodge/spell dodge on top of ~20% attack evasion (your results may very). Vaal Grace is recommended to gain 75%/75% dodge/spell dodge in extreme situations, ie. Atziri.

The Avatar of Ice Trapper does not use charges, critical strikes, or depend on any on hit or leeching mechanics. You play at your own speed. After experimenting with stacking power charges and frenzy charges, I found this to be a great change of pace.

4. Controlled Destruction
5. Trap and Mine Damage
6. Fire Penetration

Curses:
1. Enlighten

Auras:
1. Clarity

Movement:
1. Lightning Warp
2. Reduced Duration

3. Vaal Grace

The Vaal skills are also optional, but I found Vaal Grace to be a superb defensive ability.

Q & A:
Spoiler

1.) Why Avatar of Fire?

There are very few gems that scale Ice Trap's damage, and even fewer gems that are found as implicits on items. Cold to Fire succeeds in both regards. In fact, I found Cold to Fire to be better source of damage than a level 3 Empower in a +3 Cold Gem staff. As a result, I decided to turn on Avatar of Fire to take advantage of the fire damage bonus on Kaom's Heart and the Fire Penetration gem.

can i ask why aof?

never played an aof character so i'm curious about the benefit of it :)

also, this is the first build i see that uses realmshaper, nice! :D
@tufferugli

I've added my reasoning for choosing Avatar of Fire to the Q & A section at the bottom. Basically, it's hard to find gems that scale Ice Trap's damage, and Cold to Fire is both, great at scaling Ice Trap damage and is found as an implicit on a unique item.

Conc effect, trap and mine damage, cluster traps, cold penetration.
Im sorry but i really dont think this build uses anything correctly..

All the ideas boiled down dont match its own goals and results in a ridiculously squishy looking build considering the vinktar white mobs brought you down to 900 hp

Whats the point in showing a build that uses a kaoms heart when ur hp drops like that?

Build doesnt even have an immortal call setup

The tree pathing overall seems skittish and rushed. Not having planned out much.

The realm shaper rod is a really off choice imo...

Overall builds that take avatar of fire, take it to scale ignites. When you run elemental focus it defeats the purpose of going avatar of fire....

You didnt quality your gems... ESPECIALLY YOUR CURSES... MY GOD..

Quality on
Ele weakness - Per 1% Quality Cursed Enemies lose 0.25% Elemental Resistance
Controlled destruction - Per 1% Quality +0.5% increased Spell Damage

ETC ETC

very little thought put into this build , tree, items, gem links , etc....

So ima do you a favour... and fix your build...

Here is what your tree should have been (for the sake of going avatar of fire to allow your ice trap to ignite)

Reasoning - Trappers dont fair well with Acrobatics... as shown in ur video where ur on vinktar and u jump down to about 700-900 hp

acrobatics is for evasion builds only

You are WAY better off focusing on maximizing the curse effectiveness, running tri curse with Temporal Chains - Flammability - (For dmg ele weakness, for def enfeeble)

Then you utilize EB/MoM to negate about 30% of all dmg taken. It will get eaten by your "ES" pool

Video example of what a trapper with defensive curses looks like - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaMixQk9004

Now lets talk about your links for ice trap

ice trap - http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Ice_Trap
does indeed scale nicely with added levels to it.

However that being said if you are trying to take advantage of avatar of fire and use the burn ignite dmg then you need to scale "elemental damage"

Elemental overload gives 40% more ele when you crit

Ele stacks on burn dmg so the highest DPS setup would be to dual wield doryanis catalyst since you can pull about 110% ele from each one and increase the crit chance, etc.

If you REALLY have to go for scaling levels and using a staff, why would you 6link a +1 realm shaper..

for the lvl 5 cold to fire? oh come on...

if you REALLY wanna push levels, then get a +3 to cold gems staff and try to craft spell dmg on it if you can. Then use a lvl 4 empower linked to - ice trap - cluster trap - Cold to Fire - chance to ignite - trap and mine dmg

On my own DD trapper i was able to pull such a ridiculous burn dmg. GGG actually had a patch implemented for the build because the threshold it was breaking was causing a game breaking bug.

You scale the dmg through removal of resistances - scaling burn dmg - curses

I really cant say much more

You can take my advice if you want, or not idc.

right Kappa

pls tell me about ur es acro build

or ur block acro build?

yea oh right acro is only used with evasion builds because
-Dodge is a chance to avoid a damaging hit. The Chance to Dodge is a pseudo-random roll made per attack/cast, it is not entropy-based like evasion nor is it affected by accuracy. Dodge is capped at 75% and is rolled before Block.-
There are two types of dodge:

Dodge Attacks applies to attacks. It is rolled after Evasion, it is not connected to the attacker's accuracy and so chance to dodge is unaffected by evasion-related mechanics such as Blind, Resolute Technique or Unwavering Stance.
Dodge Spell Damage applies to spells. It is rolled before damage mitigation.
Dodge Attacks and Dodge Spell Damage are both capped at 75%.

You heard it here first, you can never pick Acro/Phase Acro in ANY build ever unless it's 100% Evasion based.

That's right folks, you better just toss any piece of ES/Armor gear right out the window if you plan to pick up Acro.
