[Theorycrafting]The Mortar Build! Instant Traps Scion.

Hello guys,with the release of the new Threshold Jewels(Cheap Construction) and the Trap Recovery Cooldown Support Gem,I've had this build In my head which I think will be pretty darn good,just need some advices to polish it up a notch.

The build idea consinsts in using the unique belt


For the reduce duration of traps and traps triggering at the end of their duration,in synergy with the new threshold jewels that give 10% reduce trap duration each,we would reach 100% trap duration,meaning they will explode as soon as they are placed,A.K.A Bombs.

With a level 20 Trap Recovery Cool-down and some recovery from the Tree,It should reach around 80% Recovery meaning the Ice Trap which has a 2 seconds cool-down will be on 0.4 seconds cool-down and Fire Trap from 3 seconds cool-down to 0.6 cool-down,meaning it will allow us to keep spamming our traps.

With Ascendancy coming I was thinking of going Elementalist due to the Elemental Flux buff that lets us Freeze,Shock,Ignite with our traps,but,after Scion class was released,I am tempted to go Elementalist & Inquisitor/or Assassin.

Here's the skill tree If you guys wanna suggest something,I will need the mana-regeneneration In order to be able to keep spamming the traps and since we will have 85% of our mana reserved,it's tough without.




The Gems setup I think will be something like this:

[Fire Trap] + Trap Recovery Cooldown + Inc Aoe + Trap & Mine Damage + Fire Penetration + (6L Elemental Prolif).

[Ice Trap] + Trap Recovery Cooldown/Cold Penetration + Hypothermia + Trap & Mine Damage.

[Magma Orb] + Trap + Concentrated Effect + Fire Penetration.

Optional:[Arc] + Trap + Multiple Trap + Elemental Proliferation/Lightning Penetration.



Utility: [Whirling Blades] + Faster Attacks + Fortify.
[CAst When Damage Taken] + Arctic Breath + Greater Multiple Projectiles.

Auras: [Blasphemy] + Assassin's Mark.
[Arctic Armor]
[Herald of Thunder]


Thank you for reading,let me know what you think It's best! My only question to you right now it's this:What do you think it's better as an Ascendancy Class for this build?The Witch Elementalist or the Scion going for Elementalist + Inquisitor/Assassin?

Side Information! Recently found out that Beacon of Ruin and Elemental Proliferation do not stack. The higher radius will be chosen so going Beacon of Ruin would kinda be of waste,don't you guys think?Let me know what Ascendancy points would you pick for this build.

!UPDATED! 2 Been thinking of actually changing one of the Ice Trap Links for Cluster Traps for amazing freeze. If Fire Trap won't clear good enough even going Ice Nova/Shock Nova traps might be better,waiting suggestions from you guys.

You'd probably be fine with only Fire Trap and Ice Trap setups, with so much recovery time.
I'm not quite sure if Elemental Conflux works for you with traps. The wordning is a little bit confusing. It shouldn't work if it's an on kill effect.

I've recently played an Elemental Proliferation Crit Fire Trapper and the damage was nuts. The only problem was the rather low-ish crit chance (50%). I reckon this shouldn't be a problem for you tho as you can just spam your traps. I would highly recommend at least one Divinarius (the 10% AoE makes it alot smoother!).

The Elementalists Beacon of Ruin is absolutely awesome. It's a free 7L Elemental Prolifertaion without the Less Damage modifier.

I wouldn't pick the Scion's Elementalist Ascendecy. Even if Elemental Conflux does work for traps it would only trigger on rares and uniques. The other benefits are negligable.

For Scion I would choose Assassin and Saboteur most likely. Shadow's Assassin is obviously a good choice aswell. You could ramp up your crit chance to 60%+ and 100% against Enemies on full life.

On another note: You don't need to link CoH Assassins Mark to your Herald of Thunder. Assassins Mark + Blasphemy will be enough. You'll generate power charges when your Herald of Thunder kill enemies. This works quite well with Fire Trap.


/EDIT: I havn't seen Ice Trap so far but since Fire Trap will be sufficient for trash and Magma Orb is a potent single target you could add Cluster Traps to Ice Trap for a screenwide freeze.

Yeah I was thinking about this but I had 3 questions In mind:

1. Does the Beacon of Ruin Proliferation work with the Elemental Proliferation Gem,as In stacking?If yes,It would totally be worth getting it.

2.If I go the proliferation route,It would be quite Impossible to go EE,I mean it would work but would kinda make the recovery useless and the boss fights really long.

3.Going Proliferation would require a high Burning Damage/Ignite chance(If Elemental Flux doesn't work with traps),wouldn't It?

What do you think about this?
Having 80% Cookstown speed recovery doesn't make your cooldown go from 2 secs to 0,4. It would be open. It works the same way as es recovery works. So with a 100% you only halve your cooldown. With 300% quarter. With 80% you'd have 1,11 secs of cooldown.
Curse on Hit + Herald of Thunder does not work with traps.

Thanks,yeah I was doubting pure math would work In this case.Really helpful Information!Even with this I'd still be able to spamm my 2/3 traps quite frequently.

Yes I've read about it and been Informed,thank you.I removed the HoT+CoH and just gonna go with Blasphemy+Assassin's Mark and HoT on a side for the Lightning Damage.
Herald of Thunder and Blasphemy + Assassin's Mark will generate power charges for you tho. This works quite well because Fire Trap ticks down the mobs and Herald of Thunder finishes them off. I copied this from Hegemony's Proliferation Trapper. I'm not quite sure how HoT is triggered in the first place, but it works.

He doesn't have HoT linked with CoH+Assassin's Mark tho,I also watch Hegemony and If you search his fire trap prolif character you will see he has HoT linked with nothing,It's Blasphemy + Assassin's mark that generate the charges.

That's basically what I said. Assassin's Mark on Blasphemy and Herald of Thunder unlinked. I never mentioned Curse on Hit.
