Destroying Items?

I destroyed a very important gear with 3 important gems while trying to post it in chat. I'm not sure what happened, but as I clicked, the destroy button appeared under my mouse, so maybe my mouse spazzed out or something.

Anyway, my thoughts on this are:

1) With selling now enabled, what's the point of the destroy function? You only destroy items in town, and in both towns there is a vendor, which will give you a 1x1 slot currency item (minimum 1 scroll piece) for your item.

2) If it happened once by accident, it can happen again by accident (and not just to me). Since this game depends heavily on good items, a twitch of the wrist can make or break a well-developed character.

This seems entirely unnecessary to me, and I hope to see it improved or removed by open beta.

As I understand it, the reason for destroying in town is because the town doesn't reset, and if players could just toss things out, the town could get filled with junk as different players toss stuff to the ground.

Someone prior to a rage quit could throw out hundreds of items individually and bog down the server, is my understanding of why there is destroy instead of being allowed to drop in town.
I understand that, but selling is just as effective for getting rid of unwanted items, and you get currency.
I still delete some stuff... anything which would only give me a scroll fragment... no need to waste a 1x1 square in my inventory carrying around freaking scroll fragments.

Agree with the OP. However, i could see some spots that would break the game. E.g. the current situation where you are forced to destroy an item because you click out of the stash and have no room for the item. If you can't destroy it, you'd be permanently frozen in place.

Of course, you could ctrl+click the word "Stash", but most ppl don't know about that.

Scroll fragments don't waste inventory space. They should only take up one dedicated slot in your stash. When that turns into a wis scroll, you add that to your personal wis scroll stack. When you have 40 or more wis scrolls in your inventory, add the complete stack to your stash.

This way, you'll only ever need to fill a 2x1 space (Wis and portal scrolls). 1x1 out of 4 pages of stash is negligible.

I still say the deletion is an unnecessary risk. So far you've only given me excuses such as being too lazy to be efficient. That's not a fair trade-off for the risk of destroying a 6 slot linked unique with maxed out gems because you accidentally (fill in the blank).

If you don't want to delete stuff then don't drag an item to the open area and click "yes" on the delete prompt.

Having to go to vendor to sell a junk item, move the scroll fragment to stash, and later when you've accumulated enough move the extra scroll to a stack, is the exact opposite of "efficient". Just deleting junk items (that would be scroll fragments) and getting an extra couple seconds of farming is more "efficient" if that's what you care about so much.

You want to remove the ability to delete items because some people are too incompetent to NOT delete items they want to keep...? There's already a confirmation prompt, what more do you want?

ps.
Don't drag your items to the chat box, just ctrl+click them, much more "efficient".

You can only delete things in town, and there are vendors in town. There is no farming in town. Your point makes no sense at all.

A 1x1 slot in your stash dedicated to scroll fragments is not a terrible waste of space, especially if you have other 1x1 slots occupied (with orbs) in a space-saving arrangement.

If you only bring wisdom and portal scrolls out of town, you're farming efficiently.
Ive had vanishing items (rare) mostly on dungeon floors, this has happened on 0.95 as it has been on 0.94 patches. The thing goes like this: I start wiping floor with enemies, they drop rare items and then ill try to grab it. OK it grabs it but when ill look my inventory the item isnt just there.

After that i do ALT highlighting on the floor again, and its not there and not in my inventory either...

Any fix on this ?

So far locations where this has happened were just before Ledge A1, the passage lvls 1 and 2. Also in A2 the last place right before Pyramids.
