Devil's advocate here: while the main story in PoE is simplistic, nothing new, the backstory, historical figures and exile themselves are fairly more interesting/original.

Let's compare a game that was in creation for like 6 years to a new game that's been in creation for a lot less and is still technically in creation because they barely got out of early access (not that Darkest Dungeon changed much between early access and full release anyway).
