Standard selling help
|
I made a post including this a while back but did not get much help so I thought I would ask again.
original post: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1447118 I think I got my currencies in order more or less but I still do not know what I want to do about my hoarding in Standard since I want to become almost full-time standard after Talisman is over. If I learn the mods and tiers on rares will they actually sell on standard and is there rules of thumbs what kind of tiers actually sell? I know there is the reddit post about what to keep that was updated and meant for all leagues but as somebody who wants to play standard and still sell decent drops is something like that still followable in a merged over and over again league? I use the item price info site and poe.trade trying to learn how to price stuff but then when there is a ton of similar items on poe.trade I do not know if it is worth holding these items for who knows how long for some chaos or so when I have 28 stash tabs that I am still having some trouble finding a nice organization. I don't want to vendor something that if priced right will sell by the end of the week or two just because all I can think about them is hogging up space if nobody will even look at items that t3 or t2 rolls with how inflated standard is. Can anybody offer any insight? "It's all clearer now

Trading is a difficult topic. Prices differentiate between leagues and standard. You have to learn what players need and what you can sell.
It is important to study the suffixes/affixes and their interactions. Learn what is trash. Look up some guides (YouTube?). Selling stuff on standard is more difficult because there is more other stuff available. That does not mean your items are vendor trash... It might take them some time to sell depending on price and stats. I think there should be tons of threads about selling stuff. Watch some streams and ask for price checks.

ProjectPT helps with PC on THC sometimes
Ask your guild for PC and study... Here some useful tips from Yoji (warning: by clicking this link you will leave the official PoE forums) Teaching you how to sell stuff on standard will not be possible in a short thread. ign: fanimala

Was mainly looking for advice on if past threads like the reddit post I was referring to are anywhere near accurate still. Like is a dual 30% res armour still considered sellable within like a month or so or does it have to be 40%+ to even be looked at. Things like that. I understand I need to study and I will be but mostly scared that I might vendor things I shouldn't when the leagues merge and I am organizing before I actually learn anything. But I will learn.

" Make examples or post your items and maybe someone will answer. You can't expect people here to tell you the price for various recombinations of all affixes/suffixes all on their own. "dual 30% res armour" - what is this? -ilvl? -mods? -links? You should get in contact with players ingame. Look for a good guild, etc.. This is the easiest way because talking >>>>> faster >>>>> writing&waiting for reply. Edit: I won't search for a certain reddit post. When you refer to something like this -> link plz. ign: fanimala Last edited by fanimala#6598 on Jan 25, 2016, 9:41:20 PM

https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/1zxgg1/its_worth_keeping_if_v11all_leaguesitem_guide/
I wasn't bothering to list it because it has literally been in the top 3 google results any time I type in any combination of path of exile, what is worth keeping/selling, etc. for the last year that I have failed to start learning how to understand this game's economy when other things came up. I do apologize though. Long weekend and not exactly sure what I am trying to ask I guess. When I get replies or other people are told to watch videos of price checking and things like that I feel that most videos they make their decisions without any example slow downs for beginners. It just goes right over my head. And if they do a beginners guide they just say to look up similar items on poe.trade and make a price from there. I try and it sits for a couple months and I didn't learn anything. It also seems to be worse as time moves on because a lot of videos I find are older and older and additions of new top tier mods and items throw me off if I did learn anything. I didn't really want to post actual items because I didn't want anybody to give me the "watch videos" response and a price for that particular item and leave. I guess I wanted to know little more personal stories about what made things click when starting out and stuff like that because every time I try I feel lost. Is just an example though that I threw in a stash that still needs organizing after flashback. I forgot if I thought it was sellable though or if I was saving it for personal use though. But when I got this drop all I really know is that it has middle tier resists and a fairly high %es for what I normally see when playing mostly self found. I can look up similar items on poe.trade and such but I seem to just have trouble getting the hang of seeing an item like this and slotting it in a stash tab for x-chaos and moving on. I'll see if I have any clearer of an idea of what I'm looking for tomorrow. "It's all clearer now

+ Movement Speed nice
+ Res kinda ok + Free affix ~Energy Shield - Stun Recovery ------------------------> Check poe trade I think Rainbowstride might be better -> Price maybe lower than 10c (poe trade). Are there good Master Crafting mods? (+ES ?) Would this increase your profit/ chance to sell it? Try to tag it with a b/o. I would have sold them for 10c and wait for a week. Than maybe lower the price or when someone buys them after 2h than increase the price.
Spoiler
The last time I was actively playing was June last year. I don't know the prices now and I am out of the material. AND in this case poe.trade shows really bad results.

I dont think theres really any formula or video or rule of thumb etc that you can use to know whats worth selling in your stash. It really is just something where you need to understand the vast range of popular current builds, what stats and base items they want in each slot, how common these combinations are, how popular those builds are.
Too many factors, I trade constantly and most of the time Im guessing or price checking against xyz. I just know how to properly check xyz because I know what stats matter. If your boots have 30 fire and 30 light resist dont search for that, search for psuedo total elemental resists = 50% etc. Thats all, most of the time I just look at a thing and guess its value just from general market and item knowledge. It might be 50% of the proper price, I might be asking 4x what anyone is willing to pay. If I get 6 whispers within an hour of listing I underpriced, if I dont get any for a week I overpriced, thats how I tell. If there was a formula I would know about it and use it, doesnt exist, the systems are far too complex. I might over price and then a buyer in a tight spot consciously overpays because its the only thing on the market. I might under price and no ones looking for that gear, so I drop the price again and when it eventually sells the guy buying it is thinking "5c? lolol I would have paid an exalt for this". What really is the price of a thing? Outside of uniques that are easy to price check on xyz there is no price, thats why its impossible to get down to a formula, were all just making it up as we along and weighing everything we buy and sell item by item, situation by situation. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

I was listening to an old ziggyd video about pricing for like the fifth time in a year while doing some non-poe stuff yesterday and something did finally just click... I think. I saw that thread you linked fanimala too and the commentary helped move that thinking along afterwards.
Like I said though I am still trying to get 28/32 before March 3rd before I ditch Talisman for standard again so I have a while before I can actually try selling again. Hopefully I did catch on to something finally. @snorkle I think part of my problem is that I was getting frustrated checking poe.trade for every single rare that I stopped and questioned it's value and it seemed time consuming. Maybe if I can transition to standard full-time (baring any more free mtx challenges - damn you GGG). I can slow down how I play and not care as much. The Anuhart is a role-model for me now other than the only self found part >.< Does anybody know if http://www.poeprices.info/ is fairly accurate for the same thing as checking price on poe.trade? I feel like it is a decent start because the auto mode under and uppercuts mods and then disables searching irrelevant mods but afaik still has some issues. Seems quicker then plugging in stats and mods or using poe.trade's upper and undercut function since you have to go and disable irrelevant mods (not too big a problem but could save me some time while learning). i wouldnt bother price checking everything. Honestly Id drag out a handful of the ones you have an idea are really good and check those. Everything else just throw em up for 1 to 5 chaos depending on what you get a feeling about, if stuff doesnt sell after a little while drop it down by a chaos or so.
You may scam yourself and sell a few things too cheap, but rly its no biggie. Until you know how to price things fairly accurately by eye its always going to be too much hassle to price check them accurately one by one via any alternate method imo. Often its just better to under sell a bit and get em gone, list more stuff, get that sold too. Better to focus on playing, enjoying the game, learning the builds and skills etc because thats what the game is about, and the info u need for the trade stuff is right there. When you pick up an item and think "this would be great for X build", youll be on your way to knowing what someone making that build would pay for it too. trades a bit like builds, ull mess it up at first, wouldnt worry about it too much.
