What is Blade Vortex?

I'm asking if it has a constant linear or angular speed?

Does the time it takes to go around you change with its radius?

Does reducing the radius of the effect increase the speed it goes around you?

Does increasing it reduce the speed it goes around?

this answers most of your questions.
That says nothing about anything I've asked...as though I didn't check there first.

I hate it when people do that. Some of these sub forums are infested with these unhelpful 'helpers'. They are trying to be smug, but it only makes them look stupid.

Keep PoE2 Difficult.

I'm not sure how it's implemented, but it wouldn't surprise me if it just ticks off damage to everything in the radius every x seconds and the gem description is just flavor. If it's actually the knife passing through enemies that procs the damage it would have some really weird interactions with things like increased AoE creating a deadzone and also messing with the damage depending on whether or not the velocity is constant linearly or angularly(as you pointed out).

I don't have experience playing a Blade Vortex build.

A guildy of mine does though, and my answers reference my time playing with him and the things he told me.

The time it takes for a blade vortex to spin around is constant. No change in radius affects the actual damage output of the spell. Basically, if you link Inc. AOE, it will spin slightly faster, proportional to the increased area. Hence no damage change.

They actually mention the behavior in this development thread. Each instance of Blade Vortex (each individual 'flying blade') is actually a sweeping 'radar' line around the character that damages anything it collides with, rather than an actual physical object. The flying-blade GFX is basically for show/flavor. This way you don't end up with dead spots inside your cloud of blades as things get too close to you for the blades at the outside of the cloud to hit. Apparently it's much easier on their netcode as well, on top of working more smoothly with AoE modifiers.

The wiki does, however, mention that each blade from Blade Vortex hits twice per second, regardless of AoE, cast speed, or anything else.

Having played Vortex to 70 just tonight (I'm slow, deal w/it), I can state that the skill is really, really, REALLY damn good if you can support it properly. I'm a complete and total PoE Broke Hobo; this is my first lvl.70 character and far and away my fastest killspeeds everz, for maybe...25 chaos, so far? Inc. AoE effects are great, but it's duration you really want. That and cast speed, but duration first. Those two 45% duration clusters near the Scion start are absolutely critical. Both of them. Critical. Do not skip either of them.

Yeah my guildie showed us his build. Broken as fuck.

Are you serious ? You guys don't know how to read, not my fault... I really tried to help you out since I asked myself similar questions and found the answers there.

Quote from wiki:
"Blade Vortex hits at a fixed rate of 2 hits per second regardless of cast speed."
It doesn't mention specifically radius but it says "fixed" ! And the whole dps calculation is based on this assumption.

I hate lazy people. The only one that looks stupid is you.
Maybe the wiki entry was recently updated? Last I checked it, it told jack all about the above mechanics, basically just a copy/paste from Ethereal Knives about how added fire and hatred interacts. I don't even think it mentioned anything about duration!
