Gear drops based on class!! :D
As many experienced gamers know it can be quite fun hunting for gear. For many of us though it isn’t very fun having all the best gear handed to us, however, at the same time it also isn’t very fun to never find a gear upgrade for your character.
It can also be fun trading for gear, but trading becomes substantially less fun when a person feels like they are forced to do it thus spending more time then desired trying to buy and sell gear. My solution: To keep the amount and rarity of gear drops the same but to change the actual type of gear that drops based on ones class. Types of armor include Armor rating, Evasion rating, Energy shield, AR/ER, AR/ES, and ER/ES. Currently every character has 1/6 chance or about a 17% chance to find a specific type of gear when an armor drops. I propose to change these percentages thus making classes more distinct. Example: If we were to change the type percentages then drops might look more like something like this... Witch: 40% chance to find ES gear, 20% chance to find AR/ES gear, 20% chance to find ER/ES gear, about a 7% chance to find AR gear,7% chance to find ER gear, and 7% chance to find AR/ER gear. Whereas a duelist would have a 40% chance to find AR/ER gear, marauder 40% chance to find armor gear, etc. Last edited by lostsage#1909 on Feb 16, 2013, 5:35:33 AM

While I can see where you're coming from, I'd have to disagree with you. I believe the current gear system is the most desirable, as some people may be looking for gear for another character, or simply because a completely random loot system just makes those "aw yeah!" finds for your own character all the more satisfying. In addition, this is a game about customization and choice. While it'd certainly make the most sense for a Templar to focus on strength and intelligence, there's no rule against him worming down towards the dexterity side of the tree, and so this system you're proposing would only serve to make drops that fit his build even more difficult to come by.
And besides, you're forgetting that, with the exception of uniques, the best gear in the game is almost always going to be the gear that you crafted yourself, using orbs and upgrades! So, basically, making nearly half of the random drop gear be class-tailored, is a bit a redundant. Last edited by Zazulio#3494 on Feb 16, 2013, 6:45:45 AM

" The thing is how the current game is set up each class is generally designed to have 3 "viable" armor paths. Probably 99% or higher of the players dont go outside of this, however, assuming someone actually wants to they very well would still be able to. Also Those "aw yeah!" moments would happen just as frequently over all gear drops -- rarity and item find would remain the same. The diffrence being a person would simply need to trade less for gear so that they can be more self suffecient. Last edited by lostsage#1909 on Feb 16, 2013, 3:27:33 PM

"If that's true, then it must also be true that people are very well able to find appropriate gear under the current system, yes? |

I don't like it. It's forcing you to take a specific class because better drop chances, instead of skill tree options if you plan a build with a different defensive style. For example, I like to play a templar as a pure caster build, but as a witch, I got more pure caster items. I'll take the witch.

" In this system the templer would still have a better chance of getting pure ES then he currently would (20% to 17% -- not to mention the 40% chance of the AR/ES gear) so its not really forcing you take a certain class, simply making the drops more accurately reflect the classes. |

this idea is bad.... what if i wanna play bow marauder and all i get is 2h maces?
In that case your idea would work opposite, id have to trade even more |

" This basically is all the argumentation which has to be made against a suggestion like this. I couldn't agree more. |

" This is only for armor, im not sure if it would work very well for weapons for reasons like this. But doing it for armor would only help everyone. |

This is one of the worst idea I have read so far on this forum. There are no good arguments to support this.
Also a FYI for you, GGG stands for Grinding Gear Game. In other words, you have to grind grind grind to get the gear you want for this game. Your idea is opposite of what this game is about! |
