Crystal Skin and Rustic Sash are Noob Traps

crystal skin isn't a useful passive though it requires a large point sink to have any chance of coming into effect at all (because you aren't going to just stop at the 15% chance)

Yes you are, that's the only valuable point. Why would you ever buy farther into that circle?

1 point investment. Capped resist won't keep you from taking shocks in endgame maps.

Tell me how you are going to evade ark. If you are talking about taking acro phase acro then probably, but still phase acro doesn't reduce critical chance with spells, or even chance to shock. 55% just for 3 point investment is worth it, same goes with igniting and freezing from spells, 55% less chanceto be ignited and well... 35% chance to evade frozen/chilled seems kinda low

Rustic Sash is awesome for EK, Bear Trap, and Shockwave Totem. Also I'm not exactly going to look down on a Rustic Sash if it comes with high chaos resist, life, and flask duration. Using a Rustic Sash doesn't disable the ability to use something else later.

Crystal Skin is awesome for a single point and it's right next to Alchemist and Arrow Dodging which are worth every penny. In addition, with it and the reduced chill/freeze chances behind it, the other reduced chill/freeze cluster, and a Hrimnor's Helm, you're immune to chill/freeze. Done it before and was immensely happy with the results, only cost like 7 points total and gave an immense amount of survivability (and let me swap flasks "of Heat" for more desirable things like "of Iron Reflexes" or "of Adrenaline").
I agree with OP: Rustic Sash sucks. 5% phy damage is ridiculously low. It's like half regular a node. Every character is better off with either a Heavy, Leather or Chain belt.

About Crystal Skin, it has a nice concept but the percentage is too low. Best way to defend from status ailments in this game is getting more HP/ES and resists. That way you are also more resistant to the initial elemental damage. But Crystal Skin doesn't offer any protection against the initial damage. So it has to have a higher percentage to be useful.

Generally it is not that good but it works with any weapon and any spell. So for some builds it is good (EK, Bear Trap, Facebreaker gloves).

Crystal Skin is not a substitute for proper +elemental resistance; which is why melee ranger kind of falls flat.

However, it is really good when used with elemental resistances. It's not bad, but requires a pretty hefty investment usually and you don't "see" the results so it can feel underwhelming, especially in the early game when you'd much rather have +resists.
