2.1 Detonate Dead Trapper [Ascendancy Info Added]

You need 100 dex, it's not an issue. Strength can be because you need 113 for doryani's catalyst. Eye of Chayula and Perandus Blazon help with this a lot for the CI variant, but I had to grab a strength node. For the EB/MoM/ZO build I had all stats covered easily.

Since DD becomes a trap once the trap support gem is linked, trap damage and fire damage are exactly the same.

The whole reason I trap DD is so that I have another damage source to scale it.
Have you considered ascendancy classes? I drafted a DD CI trapper and decided for elementalist as she gets very potent damage increases through the golem and the free prolif support (no damage loss and space for one more damage support). Now that the tree is out saboteur looks alright too, he trades damage for much larger aoe (both by using the 12 radius prolif gem and getting another 10% radius node).

Watching your residence video I had the impression that aoe was large enough and the only thing slowing you down were tanky rares that maybe didnt catch a high rolled burn prolif and thus required additional traps. What do you think?
@Tschesae I am currently considering some different options for a DD trapper. I personally feel ascendancy classes with defensive mechanics or those that essentially add a free link are the most powerful.

Right now I'm torn between a trickster and elementalist. Trickster because I'm curious if shade form will allow ev/es to be a reliable defensive mechanic for end game mapping. Elementalist because free prolif really lightens the load on links.

I think Elementalist will be friendlier to a first build simply because a 3 link is all that's needed.

Detonate Dead -> Trap -> Chance to Ignite

A 4 link setup would add increased area of effect or a damage support like fire penetration or trap and mine damage.

This is top 3 builds for me to start the new league with so I will update the main post once I see some patch notes and can test some defensive mechanics.
What do you think about the radius of the prolif from the ascendancy tree ? I fear it will not be enough, it will not be buffed by the incAoE gem anymore. And in the same regard, what about relying more on the prolif and use conc effect instead of incAEO since it will not shrink the prolif radius (the upside of the fact prolif is in the tree...).

Also, what are the differences between your build and this one ( https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1564152/ ) . Apparently, mainly the curses, Is it the reason he achieves muych higher dps ?

Support gems can only support active skills. So Elemental Proliferation's radius cannot be changed by another gem.

I looked at the build you linked, looking at his build and videos it appears he has traded off defenses (1k life and es) for some curse effectiveness, second curse, and he is using two scepters.

A little odd is he drops chance to ignite while mapping in favor of trap and mine damage. From my testing, that gimps your clear speed and damage output. Burns are where the damage is at.

The smaller radius of the elementalist should be fine, I won't really know until I test it though.

Great idea! How is it going in 2.2? Did you have any time to play around with it? The update broke your tree btw.
Will try this with my next character (Saboteur), I changed a few nodes to make it more HC viable.

I will run dualcurse (enfeeble+flammability) with Arctic Armour + Doedre's ring + Carcass.
