How to level up the skill gems?

Hey all,
been using the search box for quite a while, couldn't find anything helpful, hence the new thread. If there is a thread with a solution to my problem, plese just point me in the right direction. Much appreciated!

My Problem is simple (i hope):
"How do I level up those skill gems?"

I got the very first skill gem, I am level 3, when I hover over the skill gem a little window in the top right corner says: "This gem is ready to level up." (or something similar to that).

Also, when i mouse-over the skill gem, a tiny yellow circle in the top-right corner of the gem's picture appears. In this circle is a black cross. It looks very much like a button, but i can't click/press it.

I am not in a town, i'm at the beach, outside of town. I tried left and right clicking wiht all kinds of extra buttons (CTRL, SHIFT, etc. etc.) and without those extra buttons.

Nothing happens!

I simply can't level this gem up, it seems. Or is there an issue with gems and leveling?

Do gems level up by themselves, just the message is broken? Do i have to do anything at all to level a skill gem up?

Help would be so nice, since the in-Game community, that i encountered, was very childish with an extremely low attention span, i thought i'd give the forums a try.
It has got to be better in here, than in-Game .. =)

I tried the global chat, but as mentioned above, no help was provided. And i have tried for a while without using any profanity at all. What i got back was a few sentences, not solving anything at all, including profanity.

Thanks a ton in advance, I hope there is someone out there how knows a way out of this skill-gem-issue.

Ok here's some small information about Skill Gems that might help you solve your problem (also it's no prob xD )

- Skill Gems Level automatically by attacking monsters

- Skill Gems get a small yellow cross on the upper right corner of the item icon to show that they're ready to level up

- Skill Gems can only be leveled up if you fit the requirements like: Char-Level, Enough Str, Dex or Int, etc.

- Skill Gems can be leveled up when a smaller version of the Skill Gem Icon pops up at the bottom right corner, left from your Skill Shortcuts.

- If you missed clicking on that Button, just open the inventory, it gets moved to there. On Inventory bottom left are stored Skill Gems that are ready to Level up!

It would be nice if they could make it a little more obvious where to level up skill gems if you miss it.

I wasn't paying attention when one of my skill gems leveled up and it took me a while to figure out how to do it manually. It would be easier if you could level up the skill by hovering over the gem or something.
