AA + Post Proc Bug Work Around (ATI)

Hi there all!

I recently saw people still complaining about the AA + PostProc visual bug. We are all familiar with what graphical issue occur when you have AA and post proc on in game at the same time.

Now I thought people knew about this work around, so I didn't mention it until now. But I saw someone complain about post prog + AA causing problems just recently. So I decided to post how I got around it. This is a fix for ATI, but you can follow a similar method through nvidia. I just don't have the screens because the only nvidia card is in my media center and I don't have POE installed on it. Here goes:

So here is an expanded shot of what the game looks like without AA:

Lotsa jageddy stairsteps around Greust.

So turn off the in game AA, but leave Post Proc. On.

Open up the catalyst control Centre, and you should see a screen with several categories. Select image quality under the Gaming section:

In the new screen select the Anti-Aliasing link:

In the dropdown menu select 'Override Application Settings' and drag the slider over to the right. For most things the 4x setting is enough, but I cranked it all the way:

Now let's compare without AA again:

To with AA on:

Notice the stair stepping is decreased in the second shot. And you will still have post proc. on.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

Thanks for this tipp but take a look at the whole image sharpening with PP on. With my ATI the whole screen is a little bit unsharp and thats no matter if AA is on or not.

Hmm...I don't get that at all. My issue is the whole flame and spell effects problem.
I will post a full screen comparison shot tonight ( at work right now )

I do see what you mean though. It almost looks like the bottom image is in soft focus.
