Kongming's Stratagem disappointment
Looks like that templar has an itch on his ass he needs to scratch, probably due to the problematic conundrum of why the blind is not global to all fire based traps.
Let alone contemplating the blind duration. I already voiced my thoughts on this on the sub-thread that first showed it, not surprised by a thread like this popping up to say the least. I already had to make a bunch of concessions on it and then when we finally agreed on something, they had to go one step further and basically make it worthless for all builds. But yeah, I can be tenacious when I feel like I got hosed when the item wasn't going to be OP OP no matter what. The fact they couldn't even get the 3D art right was like the final straw that just made me shake my head and wonder what the point of it was. I think if GGG were the same company as back when I first bought into their ideal, I'd have been a lot more forgiving however I don't have the same loving relationship with it all as I did back then so perhaps I am being unreasonable. It is sad when you have to shelve an idea for a build for your own unique item. Just did some test and forced myself to use the shield even if my first impression were really bad.
1- The 1 second blind and smoke very low radius are horrible, but it feel ''okish'' to ''meh'' with the 30% additionnal fire damage over time from fire traps. Its not that good, but its not that bad. 2- My real issue with the shield is that it feel like you're walking with no shield at all. I just dont understand how it supposed to be ''strategic'' while laying traps and blinding ennemies. The blind has a sooooo short duration and the radius is just soooo low that theres no way in hell you can use his defensive mod. How I am supposed to get benefits from the -30% spell damage from ennemies when they are blinded? Most bosses or mobs use spells so slowly that the blind effect is already off as then begin their animation... I really hope this item get the update later this week. It really need it, cause it can be an awesome niche shield. Really! |

Guess you should have just asked for it to be super-rare so that it could at least have meaningful stats and be useful in at least one build. |

It was neither Zhou Yu, nor Zhuge Liang's intent to allow Cao Cao to escape his defeat at Chibi. Rather it was the intervention of Guan Yu, whose honour and gratitude compelled him to disobey orders.
In this analogy Guan Yu represents a bug in Kongming's Stratagem's smoke cloud duration causing it to not last long enough. It's definitely not intentional and we're working on fixing it at the moment, along with the 3D art's orientation. Hopefully that'll be ready soon! Gameplay & Level Design

I've played around with this a bit. Glad to hear the cloud duration is getting buffed as it did feel quite underwhelming.
Also, an interesting use of this shield is socketing raise spectre into the shield and raising Undying Alchemists or Undying Incinerators with the skill. They use traps quite often and while socketed in the shield their traps create smoke clouds. Kinda hard to specc as a trapper AND keep spectres alive though. Especially ones notorious for being super squishy, even on dedicated summoners. And dedicated summoners probably want more than a 3 link for their spectres. But it's a fun interaction I think. " Sadly not true. Raise Spectre is not a "Trap" gem and thus doesn't summon smoke clouds. It might work with Raise Spectre + Trap, but I kinda doubt it. I really wish the "smoke cloud on trap" effect was global, both because it makes the shield infinitely more usable late game and because you could then gift it to your trapping spectres via Necromantic Aegis. |
