Donald Trump
" If that measure passes, it will be interesting to see if it improves the system. IMO, it looks promising. I'd still love to see a "None of the Above" ballot choice, which if it won a majority of votes, would ban all current ballot candidates (for that position) from that position for a couple terms. Regardless of how it is implemented, I think our system is due for some sort of "No Confidence" measure from the voters to their leaders. " Their votes will be counted. Many voting systems allow people to check whether their vote was tallied correctly. Judging the aggregate may be difficult, but it would be possible for a large organization/fund to do so. Where one source of potential fraud comes in, is additional ballots being added. There have been some examples of very close races where additional ballots have been "found" that were dramatically different from the voting percentages of the overall whole in that area. I'm not sure if the news posts are still there for me to dig up as examples (so many news sites seem to be culling their data after a year or two now), but the ones I am thinking of and remembering had races within a few hundred ballots, and several thousand ballots were "found" during a recount, and those ballots percentages were very heavily skewed from what the overall vote was. It was bad enough that there was talk of repercussions for those in charge, but rather than hold them accountable, they changed the voting system and promoted some of those responsible to the federal government. So, Trump's critique doesn't have any concrete basis in the current election cycle, but there have been some historical precedents that were extremely dubious. Have people already forgotten about Tricky Dick and Watergate - for instance? People cheat at games, they cheat on their spouses, they cheat on exams ... etc. To think that no one is going to try and cheat in elections is extremely naive. That the cheating effort will be significant enough to influence anything is an entirely different question. Unless the election is extremely close, I don't think that kind of cheating can be pulled off. However, consider this - imagine if Trump won every single state and got all the electoral ballots. Would MSNBC and CNN and NPR continue touting how election fraud isn't a problem? In light of relatively recent news, we do have cause to be wary (not alarmed, but watchful): http://www.newsweek.com/fbi-breaches-voting-illinois-arizona-trump-clinton-russia-kremlin-putin-494339 "The Federal Bureau of Investigation has found breaches in Illinois and Arizona's voter registration databases and is urging states to increase computer security ahead of the Nov. 8 presidential election, according to a U.S. official familiar with the probe. The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said on Monday that investigators were also seeking evidence of whether other states may have been targeted. The FBI warning in an Aug. 18 flash alert from the agency's Cyber Division did not identify the intruders or the two states targeted. Reuters obtained a copy of the document after Yahoo News first reported the story Monday. Accessing information in a voter database, much of which is publicly accessible, does not necessarily suggest an effort to manipulate the votes themselves. When registering, voters typically provide their names, home addresses, driver's license or identification numbers, and party affiliations. But U.S. intelligence officials have become increasingly worried that hackers sponsored by Russia or other countries may attempt to disrupt the presidential election. David Kennedy, chief executive officer of information security consulting company TrustedSec, said the attacks referenced in the FBI alert appeared to be largely exploratory and not especially sophisticated. "It could be a precursor to a larger attack," he added. Citing a state election board official, Yahoo News said the Illinois voter registration system was shut down for 10 days in late July after hackers downloaded personal data on up to 200,000 voters. State voter systems are often targeted by hackers, and 200,000 is a relatively small number compared to other recent incidents. An independent computer security researcher uncovered in December of last year a database on 191 million voters that was exposed on the open Internet due to an incorrect configuration." TL/DR Donald Trump may already have 191 million votes in the bank? " America might go down the tubes as Hillary claws everything in sight that disparages or incriminates her, but to say the planet is endangered is only fitting if the words are coming from a carnival barker and he's also telling you they have real live aliens and a Yeti-Loch Ness Hybrid under the tent, if you'll just step right up and buy a ticket... " That long? Not, like in the first 3 milliseconds? Clearly, the writer is a master of the understated subtlety. While Hillary has already proven herself to use nation state supported violence as a foreign policy tool, the jump to nukes is another matter entirely. The good news, is that if this guy can get published and make a living off of his opinions, than so can anyone else! If the piece was better written, it would remind me of a reverse Landover Baptist article.
