ISP provided router running better than $300 Netgear router
OK so recently we got suddenlink and the router they provided
were paying for 250 mbs this is the router suddenlink provided http://www.speedguide.net/routers/arris-touchstone-dg1660-docsis-30-dual-band-concurrent-3411 max wireless speed is 400 mbs and this is the router we bought http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-Nighthawk-AC1900-Gigabit-Router/dp/B00F0DD0I6 max wireless speed can be from 600-1300 mbs we are currently getting a better wireless connection from the default router than we are from the $300 one we bought (Netgear) I know this may be a stretch but is our ISP somehow degrading the quality of our signal through their non provided router? i know many other companies have been accused of cutting their competitors wires (mainly Comcast) because honestly a router that can do a maximum speed of 1300 mbs should not be doing worse than one that can only do a max of 400 mbs *just in case you were wondering, im not expecting to get the max that the router says, i know im only going to get as much as the ISP provides but we are getting around 130 mbs with the netgear router and 230 mbs with our ISP's router. any thoughts on this or do i have this all wrong? |

Does it make a difference which band of the Netgear router you connect to, or do the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands both perform similarly. Do you also see poor performance for local network transfers when using the Netgear?

Have you removed Asus ROG/GameFirst yet? |

" It's perfectly safe to remove your tinfoil hat. Your ISP isn't doing anything to your speeds. Nighthawks have had software issues ever since they were introduced. First thing I'd do is make sure you have the absolute latest firmware revision from Netgear, if you don't and feel comfortable doing so, flash to the latest version. Secondly, I'd triple check your settings and make sure the 5ghz band is running on the same frequency as the ISP provided Docsis. Apples to apples applies here. Lastly, if you continue to have problems I'd look into getting a replacement, I know there were a large number that shipped late 2014 with bad chips, may be a similar issue. Nachos? Yes.
