What's the best cold/ freeze spell build?

Hi there

I want to build a cold/ freeze build, preferably with a Templar as I've 2 leveled at 48.

Could you point me to the best cold spell builds, as there are now so many builds on the forum.

Basically I want to freeze everything in site with high dps.




Any pointers to the best build with a Templar/ shadow would be great.

Elemental Prolif was nerfed but I guess you could try to use vaal cold snap and shatter the frozen mobs.

Damn that is so old. It's like entirely new game now :)

First, u can not perma(or at least most of the time) freeze hardest bosses anymore. But freezing most of the content is possible.

As for good skills, any cold skill will do with different effectiveness. Lighting skills with 1 or 2 call of the brotherhood rings can do too. I would definitely recommend going crit for all. There is however a romiras cold snapper, none crit obviously.

Crit freezing pulse is probably the best option right now, most versatile, with possibility to freeze almost anything. But u need to get used to it, if u go self cast, requires good aiming for groups. Ice nova and cold snap have better clear speed. Other spells r as good or worse, than freezing pulse.

There was a build of the week totem freeze pulser recently, u can check it out.

*EDIT and there is also 3 dragons. But u would rather use a cold spell.

It freezes(with ice spear) everything up until tier 8 map bosses and I'm pretty sure if I had better supports on the single target I could get it up to tier 10 bosses.

This includes things like beyond bosses(except haast and abaxoth because they're fucking immune to freeze).

Im aiming for a freeze spell and gather from the thread that crit is a necessity.

I'm going for a pure cold damage buidl.

Can someone check my tree (50 Templar) and see if it has any viability for late game.

My setup currently may look a little odd, as I'm playing glacial hammer. till I get to 58 and can use muy wands.

Then I'm looking for a 5L cold skill set - glacial cascade, icespear/coldsnap.

MY question is, do you HAVE to go crit with a spell cold build.

U dont need to go crit, but crit makes it easier to freeze things. Crit build does more dmg per hit, meaning mobs will stay longer frozen and u can freeze higher hp mobs. Also if u crit, u proc freeze, so no need in freeze chance.

On ur tree u took 0 mana and mana regen nodes and also no blood magic. Unless u play to use mana leech, u will have very hard time using ur 5L spells.

If this is only about freezing stuff, this guy do this all the time. With templar start it would be even easier. Also I srsly didnt try very hard.

btw as long as enough % of your total damage is cold it's all fine, you can run Heavy Strike or other abnomitanions.

For non-crit, Cold Snap with a Romira's Banquet ring is probably your best option. For crit, Freeze Pulse and Ice Spear are both decent, but they don't really favor templar start.

A self-cast Discharge with Power and Frenzy charges would also freeze extremely well but that's not so easy to pull off.

For cold snap, there's a lot of cool stuff you can do. I recently published a guide for my own character here. It's quite strong and very fun. You need a 5L or two (or one and a specific helm), but it works quite well.
