[HC] Ghost's Leveling/Race Guide (updated March 5th)

Was looking for a ranger build to start off with and I stumbled on this. Seems pretty solid so far. Looking forward to the updates c:

Quick question: You list lightning arrow as one of the skills used, but in your gameplay bit it only mentions poison arrow. When would be a good time to switch over ? Or am I misunderstanding something ? First ranger, so forgive my ignorance :p

I have alot of skills on an alt wep set leveling them for endgame build. This is a leveling/survival build. but for just starting off its not important.

most ppl use lightning arrow build once they reach end game, martincreek or nugy's

why not a single dmg node? only defence? can this really work?

Thx for the guide. I’m giving this a try and although still only in act 1 it seems to be working for me. Any tips on keeping mana up for spamming PA? Do you just have to drink a lot of mana flasks until you get blood magic?

Pretty solid so far (level 17), only close calls were hailrake and things caused by my own stupidity.

To joseas:

It is a hardcore build so alot of health/defense. With poison arrow the DOT or chaos dmg isn't affected by gear/nodes so while your leveling there isn't a need to get those nodes. Late game or when you switch to your end game ranger build you might want to take them or when your get good gear late game you can spec more DMG over Survivability. but for early game and leveling i feel this is the way to go.

I actually never had mana problems. It's a product of two things for me tho I always solo'd so much slower pace, as well as i didnt spam PA only shot it ever 3 seconds when the DoT wore off. but as a general rule u have mana problems with most builds early.

Yea hailrack is rough if u get hit off screen with icespear, roahs can be crazy and the Ice skeltons in act 1.

Figured I'd add to your method, since I like what you've outlined. If you can somehow afford to buy, or have found, the bow Silverbranch Crude Bow, stick your poison arrow into it, and you will literally watch every mob pack that you fire it at melt within seconds. I know a lot of people know about this, but I figured it couldn't hurt to mention it on your leveling guide. It's a luxury, and certainly not necessary, but it makes everything so much faster. i actually was planning to update my gear section, and bow with +bow gem 1-2 is gonna be epic for PA DoT.

Something else you may want to mention in your gear section is that you want to stick to pure evasion gear if possible. You have all that percent evasion boost from the beginning of the tree and with IR it massively boosts your physical damage reduction.
