300-2000ms ping spikes otherwise good connection

Well, lost another level 50 character to lag. Didn't even get to see my character die, just checked my stash tabs and look! I'm in standard! amazing.
Having another technician come out to check the line again. This time more than for just a few seconds. Here is a ping to Google. Strangely now the lag only shows in WinMTR to be from the first hop to the second. Previously it extended to every hop past it, every hop for a lagged packet would take up to 2 - 5 seconds or more for each hop. (2000-5000ms) I still get 1500ms+ spikes lasting anywhere from one packet to ~10 seconds but only from my router to the first hop. http://puu.sh/laKku.png Last edited by Fatal_Oath#5356 on Nov 5, 2015, 5:00:58 PM

Next time, capture a WinMTR trace to the PoE servers, not to google.
They take different routes, and if there is an issue along the route to the GGG PoE servers, they won't necessarily show up in the trace to Google. Try to capture at least 300 packets and maybe something will pop up. Try to also capture before, during, and after the issue.. then we get a more complete picture. If you only start the capture when you experience problems, it doesn't always catch them properly. I usually recommend to just start WinMTR tracing to the server when you begin to play, and let it capture while you play until you experience the issue. I'd also recommend using the Text export rather than an image as it is easier for us to copy/paste from to point out issues... feel free to edit out the first hops if you REALLY need to, but I'd recommend not as this information is very rarely private information and it allows us to clearly see network boundaries. If you MUST edit them out, only edit the last two octets of an IP address, or any CITY designators of the hostname... example: 192.168.0.1 could become 192.168.XXX.XXX (although those 192.168 addresses are internal and contain no special information you have to hide). An example of a host edit could be something like... 71-33-XXX-XXX.XXX.qwest.net ... there are 2 edits because one contains my IP in the hostname, and the other contains my city... notice I didn't edit out the "qwest.net" part as that is important to determine the ISP, etc. Good luck. Hey there Fatal_Oath. Sorry to hear you are still having troubles.
While it is a good idea to run to the PoE servers for WinMTR tests, I'm going to assume that since it happens in PoE and it is showing up in routes to other locations, that it is pretty universal no matter what route you are going or destination. Going on that assumption, Is there anyone in your neighborhood you know on the same service as you that you could test from? It certainly sounds like you are having troubles between you and your provider. If you could test from a nearby location to you, you could rule out / narrow down the problem to the connection getting to / coming from your house. "I would have listened... Well we had a fresh line put in leading out to the road tonight. Still got that issue. Guess I'm just going to wait to call the supervisor's number they gave me. I may end up asking the neighbors if they use Time Warner. I was going to test WinMTR over Wifi but it wasn't working so I hard wired it in. I later realized that I was still running WinMTR on my desktop. (duh)
Spoiler
On a laptop while connected with my Ethernet cord https://www.dropbox.com/s/0nptuxq60osi4k1/winmtr11-5-15-laptop-softlayer.txt?dl=0 On my desktop with my Ethernet connection https://www.dropbox.com/s/i8r005sn6d4j4vv/winmtr11-5-15softlayer-desktop.txt?dl=0 obviously not my PC that's the issue but I already knew that. I've been thinking that it's possible that my neighbors are getting the same issue, but it's probably something they wouldn't notice or call about since they aren't playing video games all day lol. |
