Bad Performance - GTX 970

Hi,

I have the same problem with my GT750M. The framerate drops and neither the GPU nor the CPU are at their limits. It doesnt even make a difference if I use antialiasing or not and which texture quality I select.
FPS and latency looks similar to your first graph.
Only thing to get constant FPS is disabling shadows - can you confirm this?

750M is a Laptop card isn't it? So my first thought would be a temperature issue, do you get spikes above 90degrees on either CPU or GPU when playing?

This sounds like a different issue, so it might be worth making a new thread.

Massive thanks to GGG for producing such a fun and engaging game, it has taken up faaaaaaar too much of my life over the last 5 years.

Best of luck in the future!

Already had a thread about this ;) However, I think its useful to mention it in this thread.
As I said: the CPU and GPU are not running at 100% usage, they don't have the chance getting too hot... ;) And weeks ago there was not this problem, before installing Win 8.1.

Hi there!

Thank you for posting with this concern. Sorry to hear that you have encountered this issue. We have noticed a large number of users encountering issues due to recent changes with nVidia's optimisation tool.

If possible, please completely uninstall the GeForce Experience software (this does not have to be a permanent setting, but will be valuable in testing). Once done, please restart your system, and test your performance in game. Please advise us of any changes. Thanks!

Tom, can you achieve similar results by simply turning off the optimisation for the game in GEForce Experience? Or is it something that requires an uninstall?

Hi there!

Unfortunately after testing I can confirm that this will require an uninstall.

The optimisation tool handles the profiles as set for the GPU when disabled. While most 'M' series cards will be able to be confirmed as being associated with the correct display device via the prouction.config file (the adapter= field), desktop series will want to test their experience without the software.

This is the same even when not selecting the 'optimise' option for a hardware profile. We believe this issue to be related to shadow drawing, and hope to have a resolution as soon as possible. Thanks!

Cheers for the clarification. Last annoying question - current GeForce Experience Version is 2.5.15.54, do you know if this is an issue recently introduced that could also be avoided by deferring updates, or if it is not version-specific?

Hi there!

This issue appears to have appeared in recent updates, but we are not yet able to confirm the version. A number of other users have made posts on the GeForce Experience forums with similar issues. Sorry that I don't have more information yet.

Awesome dude, thanks again. My sincere condolences for being stuck at work on a Sunday, hopefully the weather is shit or something.

EDIT: I've posted your comments to Reddit, Tom. Thanks again.

As I wrote in my first post I tried almost every available nvidia driver out there, also in every kind of installtion option (e.g without GeForce Experience, only the driver, etc) and I used DDU before every new installation. But just for you I tried the easy way now, just deinstalling the GeForce Experience software via Programs and Features and it seems to make a difference.

The game feels much more smoother and my fps are also in critical moments above 30. Only in very rare situations there is a short lag.

Ingame Settings:

Shadow Quality: Off
Antialiasing Quality: High
Texture Quality: High
Texture Filtering 2x Anisotropic Filtering

Networking Mode: Lockstep

Tested also with Shadow on and Texture Filtering trilinear or 16x but with the settings above the performance is the best.

Furthermore I'm using the newest nvidia driver with a full installtion and afterwards deinstalling GeForce Experience.

Additionally I tried nait2k4 hint again

I'd try turning off Vsync and manually locking your FPS to your refresh rate via RivaStats/MSi Afterburner, see if that makes a difference.

but without any improvements - in my opinion it feels worse.

I did all the tests in solo playing so the performane in group has to be seen and I will keep you guys in the loop.

Thank you for your help so far!

I have similar problems with my new rig.

i5-4460
Geforce GTX 960
8 gb ram
ssd

shadows are off
anti-aliasing is off
post-processing is off
texture quality is on medium
texture filtering is on trilinear
playing in windowed mode

I have 100+ fps when I'm idle in town. But as soon as I move around I experience fps spikes down to 30. It's just a split second but still annoying. The same thing happens while mapping.
VSync on or off makes no difference. The "--nosound" command doesn't improve it either. I don't have Geforce Experience installed.
