Character names stolen from me?

I take a break from the game and attempt to log in to find that my character names have been taken from me and I am forced to rename them.
My main character is the same as my Account name AND YOU WANT ME TO CHANGE MY NAME?!
WTF!!!!!

Way to seriously piss of a paying customer.

This was done a month or two ago. You had to be gone for over a year... and they tried to contact you at your registered email. You can look into it, but they really erred on the side of caution here.

Yes, GGG has decided that many millions of accounts that have been abandoned because they won't make some much needed game changes to keep them as active players so it was decided to allow a build that is dormant a year to have it's name released for re-use.

Yes, that does suck. Also not making a better end game to keep players from quitting in droves sucks too.

I feel your pain, brother. I tried making a character named after my account name (bwam), and no dice. So I came up with alternatives, like Bwamnit.

Unfortunately my guildmates decided it would be funny to roll characters cartooning my toon's name (Hwamnit, Rwamnit, and Dwamnit)... But I doubt you'll have that problem.

Admittedly, having to change your name once you've picked it is a low blow for sure... But think of it as an opportunity to pick something even better. (And at least you don't have to worry about Huey, Dewie, and Louie mocking you :p)
