Risk vs reward, hc vs softcore challenge leagues.

If you like hardcore, playing hardcore is its own reward.
If you want reward for HC mode, how about if you complete a game difficulty, you unlock higher difficulty level. I propose

Merciless 1 100% Monster Health, 100% Monster Damage, 100% IIQ IIR
Merciless 2 200% Increase monster Health, 200% Increase monster Damage, 50% reduced IIQ IIR
Merciless 3 400% Increase monster Health, 400% Increase monster Damage, 100% reduced IIQ IIR
Merciless 4 800% Increase monster Health, 800% Increase monster Damage, 200% reduced IIQ IIR
Merciless 5 1600% Increase monster Health, 1600% Increase monster Damage, 300% reduced IIQ IIR
Merciless 6 1600% Increase monster Health, 1600% Increase monster Damage, 400% reduced IIQ IIR
Merciless 7 3200% Increase monster Health, 3200% Increase monster Damage, 500% reduced IIQ IIR
Merciless 8 6400% Increase monster Health, 6400% Increase monster Damage, 600% reduced IIQ IIR
Merciless 9 12800% Increase monster Health, 12800% Increase monster Damage, 800% reduced IIQ IIR
Merciless 10 25600% Increase monster Health, 25600% Increase monster Damage 900% reduced IIQ IIR

How is that for a reward?

OK what the hell, a thread with "risk vs reward" in the title and no JohnKeys post yet in 3 pages?

hahahaha well I'm kind of working on being harder to bait, so the content of Opening Post was more important for me, than the title.

the league mods - especially during the weekends of pure insanity - are making sure everyone gets their fair share of ass-kicking.

actually went for the HC version this time, and the funny thing is none of the crazy Ghosted Invaders or Exiles or even the occasional Beyond Boss got me. many close calls, but nope.
Dominus did. 2nd form. lack of Staunching Flask = RIP.

I disagree that playing HC should mean greater reward by default, because the risk is pretty much the same if you assume SC players like myself aren't really fond of dying, unless explicitly playing "zerg tactics" with a Glass Cannon.
but the scarier encounters this league can - and does - produce (quite frequently), should indeed follow the risk/reward principle regardless of SC or HC.

If there was an actual hardcore mode in PoE I might agree with the idea. But, there is not.

If logouts were only possible in town and hideout and not while actually playing, that'd be a good start. Then, if you actually would die, e.g. permadeath, that would make it a hardcore mode worth the name.

What we have now is a travesty.
