Get better gear - how?

My advice to you as a new or returning player is that you need to utilize the masters to generate wealth for you. It is by far the easiest way to acquire currency while minimizing interactions with others. It also (temporarily) eliminates the need to sink time into "learning a skill" (trading orbs / valuing gear etc).

Haku > 64 augs to 20 alts
Elreon > 32 alts to 20 jewelers
Vorici > 64jewelers to 20 fusings

Then trade Fusings for Exalts to players. Hawk the A3m message boards for the current rates / spreads. Cat and Leo's scouring orb trades are also desirable. I've stacked a good deal of exalts since 1.3 by just taking advantage of these simple buffed vendor trade ratios over time.

Once you understand how to generate wealth correctly in more ways than one you will be able to afford almost anything you want. This is one simple way. Chaos / Regal recipe is another simple method. Maintaining a shop thread is another easy one... Start with these simple tasks and stay focused.

I payed 7 chaos for this.

It doesn't look like much, no life, no resists but my cycloner is capped on all resists but chaos, stands at over 5k life and 10k armor before flasks/buffs. That's perfectly fine for the maps I run atm. (lvl 71-73 at lvl 84)

My next goal is to get this baby going:

Do I want a 40% life roll and more armor? Hell yes! Can't afford it yet though... ;)



I was in the same position when I started playing back in the day and the two things you want to focus on are knowing what gear goes into your stash and which into the chaos recipe.

The second thing is that you want to look into making due with crap/cheap gear:


That's my EK setup. It's basically a 3-link BUT in a Geofri's Crest which gives me +1 gem level. That's big on EK. I tried other gem combos in a Tabula Rasa but this actually works great and leaves me free to do whatever with the rest of my gear. If I switch my rarity gem for faster casting I can increase my dps by 30% if needed. I only use that for timed missions though.

And don't forget about master crafting! Once Haku and Elreon are lvl 7 you can add and remove mods to your most of your gear as you please. Great for resists, life, added damage. Some of the most useful mods only cost a couple of alts or an alch or two. Some are a couple of chaos but well worth it.

You need to look at an item you pick up and not only see what rolls it has now but what you can craft on it with a master.
