[2.0] Budget CoC Ice Spell Ranger (would like feedback)

This thread is mostly for my personal use so I can record what I’ve done and tried while I perfect the build. Feel free to comment, this is my first build and I'd like some advice before crafting a build for the 1-month league.

Story
I started this character as a KB Wander following Oos’ guide (link) and had great fun with that. But I started tinkering around with KB CoC and found out it was a ton of fucking fun to proc a trillion spells with KB. I started trying to adapt my build with KB, but I was having massive mana issue (56 mana per cast at 3.5 APS? No thank you.) so I switched to Barrage.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pros
- Super fun to play.
- Not too expensive to get started
- Incredible clear speed
- Easily cap crit
- Easily go far above 4k life
- Freeze 95% of mobs if you don’t kill them in one volley.
- Gear can be easily switched around to MF

Cons
- Weak to reflect, but still playable. Can get around it by keeping a Sapphire Flask in inventory.
- Not very atziri viable. I haven’t invested a lot into gear, but I imagine with a 6L volls it could be done. Links would probably be Barrage-GMP-CoC-Freeze Pulse - Glacial Cascade - Cold Penetration
- Mobility skills are hard to come by as a wander. Lots of option though, brightbeak + leap slam on weapon swap or whirling blades. Personally, I just use a Quicksilver of Adrenaline along with 30 movespeed boots.

Current Ranger Tree

It doesn’t have to be a Ranger. Witch, Scion, Shadow, all could work. Play around with what you like.

You can tell I started as KB Wander. The idea is to get your basics down: life, evasion, crit chance, spell damage, projectile damage, accuracy. I opted to not get the crit multi clusters, but if you get some good gear with crit chance for spells, crit multi can boost DPS by a lot.

Crit is pretty easily capped. With 6 power charges, 10.8+ crit wand or so, and a few pieces of crit gear here and there you can hit 95% without too much trouble. Make sure you don’t go overboard on crit chance gear and waste valuable affix space!

Jewels can be really good. If you find a really efficient jewel, use it by all means!

Spoiler

With a 10.96 crit wand, I only have 95% extra crit chance from my jewellery to max crit chance. You can easily get a crit chance amulet and another diamond ring and then take out rats for more life if you want while still capping crit. Most of this gear can be swapped out if you feel squishy for some reason.

Helm: Rare. Life, resists, evasion.

Chest: Currently using 5L LC (non-legacy, so it was only 1ex). It’s hard to give up LC’s damage mitigation, although I suppose Hyrri’s is a good choice or Daressos for the CWDT setup. With a 6L volls, you could drop the heralds and put in whatever heralds you like, maybe Haste.

Boots: Life, 25+ movespeed, resists, evasion in that order.

Gloves: I played around with the glove slots a lot. I started with this pair: which was really good with KB. Then, I switched to Maligaro’s which was a great boost to damage. But I bought this current pair to fill out the spots where I was missing stats. Strength to cover the requirements for my CWDT setup, accuracy, life, resists.

Wand: My wand is pretty much shit. Basically, you need 10+ crit and spell damage, along with

Flasks: Whatever you prefer. I have one Warding, one Staunching, one Adrenaline, one Heat. Running 3 Quicksilvers is overkill, I just haven't spent much time thinking about what DPS flasks to get.

Belt: All you really need here is as much life as possible and some resistances. I'm toying around with a cold doryani's, the cold leech really helps.

Jewellery is really flexible. You can put on whatever you want to cover crit chance. I’m currently running HoI + HoT to sustain power charges. Purity of Elements to cover missing resists from LC, but with good gear this can be dropped for more auras.

Gem Links
Required Links

Barrage - GMP - CoC - Freeze Pulse - Arctic Breath

I don’t recommend putting in Freezing Pulse until you get a high quality gem, the projectile speed is really important to its damage. GMP can be swapped out for Cold Penetration on bosses, though you could put in Faster Projectiles, Added Cold, Culling, Slower Projectiles, Enhance, whatever. If you need to generate power charges on a curse immune map or something, just swap out a spell for PCoC.

Herald of Ice - Herald of Thunder - Curse on Hit - Assassin’s Mark

This generates our power charges and gives us a little extra deeps. You can play around with these, the most important thing is to generate power charges reliably.

CWDT - IC - Warlord’s Mark - ID

Your standard damage mitigation! Warlord’s mark helps us leech when we need it.

CWDT(1) - Warlord's Mark

Vaal Haste - Blood Rage - ID
