best end game mapping defense/build

been thinking a lot about this and im sure others have been too.

covering the basic of any build a good offense is a good defense. kill it and it cant hurt u. ive seen some builds that do so much dps they take out bosses and everything else before they can hardly blink. the cost of doing so seems to be... bat shit crazy, unless your cheesing bosses with cast on death maybe. which is an idea i love btw :D

otherwise proper positioning and movement is always a basic key.

so this is how the defenses seem to me. multiple multiple heavy heavy hits are the norm in end game maps. high life/es is not enough to not get 1 shot or even 3-4 shot before you can even react. especially when you add in the map mods less regen, no regen, no leech.





so evasion/dodge/spell dodge and block/spell block are what i see as the dominant forms of defense.

the evasion route seems more suited to the ranged style character of course. very little investment for 40% dodge and 30% spell dodge. so good because of the little investment required and how evasion works. but so bad in its limiting factors and inherent weakness. seems like it works very nicely vs spells especially with atziris step for a small investment in passive points and gear. add in the new hyrris and even better vs spells tho im not sure if belly or kaoms would still be better. maybe be a good budget setup/build for some serious atziri as im not sure where else you really get super spell damage other than malformation maybe.

but even tho cheap and pretty good vs spells you get no real mitigation vs high phys hits that actually land resulting in 1 shots. of course arctic armor, endurance charges, and lightning coil will help fill in making you overall tanky. but vs nasty mod end game maps how much of a real hit could you really take when it lands? evasion/dodge is great for what it is but only scales so far in tankiness.




block seems to me to be the best thing to build around for a true end game character defense. takes a lot more in passive points and gear (and rumis) to get high values but the values are a lot higher than what is achievable with dodge PLUS being able to use armor on top of AA, charges, coil, etc.

but it takes a lot more gear/passive investment for the higher defense leaving less room for damage.




ive been awake a while and i may be rambling by now but it just seems to me that overall when u kinda suck (like me), but want to do end game content (like me) there arnt many builds that are really tanky and do good damage. ONLY thing that comes to mind is block incinerate builds. what other builds are as tanky and do as good of damage?

edit-btw my main character is PA. which does enough damage solo and has a fair amount of life and is great great for atziri runs but when it comes to end game map bosses with nasty map mods i feel if i make even 1 little mistake in movement there gonna sneeze on me and blow me away.

edit2- summoner was my first real character i went end game with. didnt like the play style. if it works for u thats great tho. nice life and es together u have.

Hi, summoner build, hybrid 6 k life 9 k es 1h + shield, chaos golem + arctic armor for physical. 6 L + lvl 82 spectres stygian revenant for dps.

cool for sticking on mala sure but couldnt clear its way out of a wet paper bag with any speed.

of course when results are all that matters it is ur man lol

I really dislike evasion in 2.0. Im playing with Aegis, capped block, almost capped spell block, Lightning Coil, endurance charges, armour. Tanky as hell, though I wouldnt try to tank something like Vaal Slam/Touch of Dawg, hell no.
