Whirling Blades Affected by Physical Projectile Attack Damage

I was not able to find a duplicate report of this issue.

While moving Physical Projectile Attack Damage, (PPAD), to a green socket, linked to Whirling Blades, (just to incubate/level the gem), I noticed that a "d" was added to the whirlwind skill bar icon.

The Issue: The mana cost for Whirlwind increases when linked to PPAD, though there does not seem to be an interaction between the two gems.
