Cannibals

never underestimate the power of a 100 projectiles hitting you all at the same time when you walk through a door. i've learned to never just walk through a doorway with ranged dudes without baiting their first attack lol.
in retrospect though, this is probably what kills me 9 out of 10 times when im intoxicated. Every Saturday = National Booze n Poe Day

I love the ones with long shot/extra range and powerful crits.
Barrage of mudballs flying from offscreen and nearly 1 shotting me lol. This games balancing is nuts. |

Just by reading the title I knew what this thread would be about :D
Gotta hand it to the cannibals, they are one of the most fearsome monsters, right until they threw their bombs, after that they just go "I failed, please kill me for loot" I also love the notion of them throwing rocks at you while you are in your shiny gear. Like "Here have this full plate armor, it will help you with bosses and stuff, but be careful, even stones thrown at you will still damage you, just less." Well at least it feels better to kill them, for mistaking your for a training dummy. :D |

The only "issue" with cannibals is that their attacks look like they're going to do peanut damage (it's just a rock right?) but when you get hit by a bunch at once you get chunked hard. I lost a character in the last 1mhc to cannibals in a zana mission and I learned my lesson.
When you run into cannibals, you dodge the first volley of attacks and then go kill them. |
|
" they are pretty predictable and easy to dodge. that being said they do hit harder then most ranged attacks and it all comes at the same moment. but if you have a decent amount of defense they really shouldn't kill you. unless your running crazy map mods maybe. anyhow i completely ignore their attacks with both my incinerator and my cycloner if i can do that on much higher level maps. it can't really be THAT dangerous can it ? |

It's just their first "molotov cocktail" that is actually dangerous. After they throw it they're no longer holding anything on fire, and their rocks become harmless.
To counterplay take advantage of the fact that they lock on to you as soon as they see you. This means they will throw at the location you were at when you first saw them. To counterplay, simply move to a side (left or right) as soon as you see the flame throwing cannibals. All my builds /view-thread/1430399

I figured they've buffed their damage by at last a factor of 3. Prior to 1.3 they were never, ever a threat of any kind.
Now, with one little damage map mod, I was at the entrance of the boss room in Dry Peninsula, as I clicked on the "stairs" I instantly died from a blue pack of cannibals at the other side of the "stairs". It was literally "click on stairs" > "click on resurrect button". That's the definition of fun, according to GGG's stance towards the spike damage. It makes you scratch your head. |
