Current state of Descent Champions

I can only speak for casters and hopefully some melee players will provide some feedback on how they are doing with the changes to Descent Champions.

Casters:
Unless I'm missing something it's incredibly lengthy and difficult to kill The Brute now with the gems provided to Witch. If you can hit level 12, before The Brute, you can use Firestorm which I imagine would do pretty well but if you're pushing hard shouldn't you be at The Brute before you hit 12?

I've talked some with other racers on the forums and on some streams and it seems there is a very big struggle with The Brute and just gem choices throughout the race with other classes.

Id like to know what others think on the issue and how melee are doing as well with the changes to Descent Champions.

Freeze Pulse is quite bad for the Brute, from what I've experienced. Spark previously made the fight quite fast.

I've now found that Fireball is a decently fast way to kill him.

I'm not an excellent racer, but I've gotten top 30 in the last two D:C races using Witch. I think the extreme clearspeed of Firestorm(+Faster Casting/Concentrated Effect) helps make up for much of the earlier time lost.

The brute fight for casters currently is very time consuming/difficult if you go in before level 12 and haven't found really good defensive gear. At level 12 (for shadow, can't attest to other classes) the fight becomes much easier as you can kite with 2 traps, but grinding level 12 before the fight is a bit of a set back in the 40 minute race.

Unfortunately I have no real clue on how to rebalance the fight around casters hitting it pre-12 other than changing the fight mechanics completely, since there aren't really any single target spells for casters that have enough dps to make the fight go any faster.
All we really need is to get our Spark back.
fire totem and tendrils make this fight easy

lvl 11
evasion gear
shield
freeze pulse
if you get a large life flask you just need 11
Here are a few VoDs of different classes doing the Brute (couldnt find a shadow VoD).
I don't know if they are using the best strat for it, after all, we are still adapting to the changes, but all these racers are very experienced and knowledgeable.

Thank you to Helman, Mors, Nugi, JSTQ and Jani, hopefully they don't mind me linking their VoDs.

Personally, i fucked up quite a few times (missing a few balls and bad pot management) and i haven't tried Pam's strat, maybe its better.
But with Freeze Pulse you will feed him more, the question is if your DPS is good enough to kill him before he gets completely out of control...
Also, it might not seem like a huge deal, but getting lvl11 before Brute is quite a setback, ideally you want to be just lvl10 to have enough time to clear the last zones.
I will try it the next DC i'm able to make, but, right now, it really is a frustrating fight for casters.

Having access to added cold or added lightning before the fight wouldn't make a huge difference but at least it would help a little.
I don't think we get that in any chest? (not sure)

Witches seem rly slow until lvl18 when we get our good support gems and start catching up.
I was able to kill Grav in the end so apart from the Brute fight, i consider the class balanced.
